I feel so discouraged right now

Feeling really low right now. Trying to figure out how to go forward. I feel like I have worked so hard and still have so much more to go. Over a year ago, I made a serious change and went from a size 14 to a size 8 but yet I still feel huge. I still need to tone up and lose another 25 pounds. I am only 5"2, born with a small frame and any extra weight looks out of sorts on me.

Although I get many positive comments about my progress from friends and family, I still feel huge. I recently had to jump back in gear after losing grip after starting a new stressful job. I had a 20 year reunion a month ago and trust me that put my butt back on track real quick.

Anyway here I am year two, feeling like my goal weight is so out of reach. Any suggestions or words of encouragement are welcome. How do u keep on going forward? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am glad you wrote. Thank you. I have been trying for a very long time to lose weight (exercise every day and healthy food, but some unhealthy food as well). I mean a LONG time, many years. Anyway, I am the same as when I started, though at times I have been 12 pounds lighter. So, now I am grateful that I am at least healthy, whereas some others over the LONG time have developed health problems. Now all I can do is go forward. Today I am checking in here, did not overeat at a restaurant, and cooked healthy food and exercised for 25 minutes in my heart rate range. I know some self therapy to do that is helpful to me, so I can do it WHEN I manage to think of it and am not engrossed in unhealthy food before I try to think of it. So, I am at least grateful that I have my health at this point, even though I am 12 pounds heavier than I have been. There you have it: gratitude for MFP, self therapy understanding, healthy food knowledge, exercise ability.

    YAY!!

Hi there. I completely understand your struggle and frustration.

Perhaps it is time to change your goals or focus. Instead of zeroing in on the number on the scale, you could now focus on learning about your body. What vitamins, minerals, etc. does your body need to function optimally? What causes your body harm? Are you getting enough... too much?

There are so many skinny/unhealthy people out there it is scary. You have successfully lost a lot of harmful weight which you need to celebrate. You can now focus on helping your body become strong and vital, not just smaller.

All of the food that goes into my mouth serves a specific purpose for my body. (ie, one brazil nut every morning provides my body with the selenium needed, I eat a few walnuts in the morning to boost my thyroid function). The focus is no longer on what the scale says. A happy by-product is loosing weight because I am opting for food that helps my body and opting out of those that don't.

Sometimes just shifting focus a little goes a long way to achieving your long term goals.

You've done awesome and I applaud your progress in this journey. Remember that it is a journey.

Using mfp is a great way to get that added support. Feel free to add me if you want more support.

  • Thank u so much ladies! Really great things you said here. I am working on trying different things, like increasing my intensity on workouts and trying new healthy foods. I just think sometimes the journey can get really hard and it is easy to forget how far you have really gone. I still wish I was taller though lol.
