They both have their good points, but if you want lower calories (for more sauce) and a wider range of nutrients go with the red sauce.

I normally add olive oil to most of my pasta sauces including marinara.

Marinara is best in my opinion, and Rao's brand is my absolute favorite! :)

Yes. I'm surprised when people don't add evoo to marinara.

That would greatly depend on which nutritional value you were shooting for. A good marinara sauce has a lot of nutritional value....so does olive oil (which I usually put in my marinara as well). The red sauce is going to have more micro-nutrients in the way of vitamins and minerals...olive oil is a great source of heart healthy fat.

I try to aim for sauces with few ingredients, lots of veggies, and lower sugar. Here are a couple good ones. I'd love to hear about other "no sugar added" sauces!

Marinara has olive oil in it.

BTW, best spaghetti sauce in a jar? Rao's.

Easy to make at home, but it's stupid good.
  • both are good! its even healthier to make your own pasta sauce at home instead of buying from a store

My marinara includes olive oil, and generally I add lots of vegetables too.

Plain olive oil is fine, but seems a boring topping for pasta and would have a lot fewer micronutrients. Sometimes I don't bother making a full sauce and just sautee some veggies and protein (shrimp is good, but there are numerous options, obviously) in some olive oil and add that to the pasta.

I see no reason to buy jarred stuff. Making your own is much tastier.

Try the Rao's. Promise. Just once.
