HI Just wondering what site people find for the most accurate nutritional info? Drives me nuts that I try to enter a food- and there is such a range of calories! ie tonight for dinner i'm having salmon, and I've read everything from 194cal to 280cal for 6oz!

Thanks!

Have you tried google? I think there are many sources out there. Maybe try USDA.

When that happens, I usually ignore the highest and lowest entries as obviously outliers (out-and-out liars?) and then take an eyeball average of whatever remains.

But here's the USDA database for your bookmarks: http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/

Use entries that have no * in the title. Also, for accuracy, weigh your foods to the gram on a food scale.

And try to verify whether or not it is for cooked food or raw. For example, 4 oz of cooked chicken breast is a different thing than 4 oz of chicken breast, uncooked.

    USDA...

pretty much everything I put into my diary that is not from a package I type USDA...i.e. salmon usda.

When you select things like "roasted salmon" and whatnot, you're getting someone else's recipe...who knows how much oil they used or whatever.

That's what I do when in doubt. Just type "salmon" into google and viola! You will find the calorie information on the right part of the screen with the ability to switch from raw to cooked to a different type of salmon for comparison.

Google does that for most common foods.

Put the mfp ap on your phone and scan the bar code whenever possible. Saves TONS of time sorting through entries!
