for every pound of muscle you gain your body burns an extra 50 cals a day at REST <--- heard this today.. is this true?? :O

That said a muscle under repair may involve significant energy expenditure in comparison to a muscle at rest therefore increasing the amount you can eat when actively training.0 -

The more lean mass (muscle) you have on your body, the higher your Resting Metabolic Rate will be, meaning, you will burn more calories @ rest. Exact #s obviously will vary per individual.0

It is actually 4.5 calories. I attended a seminar last Friday for an athletic training/physical therapy professor who does research on this..0
