Been a couple times. Going to Istanbul again this spring as well as the southern coast. Ankara is very cool too, but a bit far for a day trip
You can't go wrong in Istanbul. Obviously go see the Hagia Sophia. I like staying away from the extremely popular restaurants and asking locals where they like to dine. Turkish food is some of the best...and it's like half price there because of exchange rates and economy.
Take a trip to Cappadocia if you can. One of the most beautiful regions on Earth.
honestly, it's not something you really need to plan in advance besides hotels. Turkey is one of those places you can just "wing it" and walk around and see where things take you.0 -
Thank you! We'll have almost two weeks; lots to see hopefully!0

Ah man, I saw Turkey and mouth immediately started watering.0

Yes! I met my husband in Istanbul and have been about 3 times since then. Must sees: Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Sultan Ahmet mosque, Take a ferry to the Asian side. Ortokoy mosque/ Bosphorus bridge, Dolmabahce Palace, Prince Islands, Eminonu Pier, Galata Bridge, Taksim Square, Spice bazaar, Grand Bazaar, Walls of Constantinople.0

Damn, thought for sure this would be a food thread with nummy photos like food porn. Now I'm hungry.0

I second the Spice Bazaar. That place was awesome! I also enjoyed Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque, so they're worth seeing. Go for a Turkish Bath! Rather entertaining! Oh and smoke some Shisha.
I felt rather anxious in the Grand Bazaar as I was nervous someone was going to pick pocket me, so I didn't enjoy that as much as I could have. Ooooh...eat some Turkish Delight....it's the good stuff!0 -
Stay at the Ritz Carlton. Second the Spice Bazaar.0
