Just finished my weekly scrubbing down of the house. Vacuum 3 flors, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, up and down stairs for laundry ansd actually worked up a sweat. Can/should i count that towards exercise. it was for a solid 2 hours.

Wow, that's awesome. I need to get off the computer and do some cleaning too.
I count my housework as exercise, but that's cause I HATE it, and it's must easier for me to do when I have some motivation.

If you only work that hard once a week you can count it as exercise. I'm a stay at home mom and I do a little bit of housework every day so I count it with my daily activity level.

    I'd count it.
  • I think it would totally count as exercise.
If your moving and lifting, cleaning, walking up and down stairs.
Go for it! :) That's an easy way to get exercise for the day, most people have no clue that they're burning calories when they clean.

    But yeah, count it.
I usually count my walking from class to class around on the campus as exercise.
If your moving and sweating, count it! Lol

I would! That's a lot of freakin work! Now how to add it, I have no clue. I know some people on mfp don't think housework should count and I don't think EVERYTHING should. "I swept the floor today,"= calories burned, I wouldn't mark that. but two hours of huffing and puffing, you betcha. I'm gonna do a butt load of yard work later (raking that's probably going to take me at least an hour or two -i'm kinda dethatching at the same time) and you bet i'm logging that!

:flowerforyou: If your sweating, your heart rate is up. Count it!
  • This is such a controversial topic on here. I think most people say NO!!! But I think you know yourself, you know your body and your activity level and nobody should make that decision but you. I don't log my every day cleaning but when I do extra things such as shampooing rugs or scrubbing baseboards.. yep I sure put it in there. Why not, its activity that your body isn't used to doing every single day and 2 hours is a significant amount of time!
  • Hell yeah, count it in! If you're not sat down, your buring calories and mega ones if it makes you sweat! Go and add them, then reward yourself with something nice!

Sure! Why not? It's exercise that you wouldn't normally be doing every day.

Once a week I do a big cleaning of my house where I do everything so I add it. If I am working up a sweat then I add it.
  • House cleaning may not be exercise as far as exercising goes, but it does burn calories. And if you want an accurate count of the calories you burn log it!!

Thanks everyone!!! Your input has been very helpful. I want to be as accurate as poosible on here. I agree, loading the dishwasher doesnt count, nor does my trip to Target and the Grocery store walking back and forth, lol. I'll figure 100/hr on the conservative side for housework and log it that way.
Thanks again for all you help! I truly appreciate the support. If I can ever help/support please add me!
    Luv u guys!
