Hi,
I recently lost almost 40 pounds... I'm 45 years old, started around 197 lbs and currently 160. I'm 5'8. I'm thrilled with the loss, I did cardio while losing the weight.. walking, bike riding/spinning. I'm very jiggly LOL especially my legs and stomach. I've read so many threads on here and everyone says strength training with weights... some of the threads get so techy, it totally confuses me.. They made me nervous to try at home if my form isn't correct I could hurt myself. I was thinking about trying a Pilates DVD???
I'm motivate to get toned up but dont know where to start.. any help is appreciated
thanks! Sue

I would suggest to get some free weights and start there. I, personally, am a fan of free weights vs. more complicated things like pilates. With free weights you can do bicep and tricep curls, you can work your abs, do squats while holding the weights out in front of you....There are a lot of resources online on proper form while weight training (http://blog.codyapp.com/a-basic-free-weights-workout-for-beginners/ if you click on the exercise, there are pictures of how to). If you want more, I'd suggest starting with a yoga program. I think yoga is a lot friendlier for beginners than pilates is. For yoga, I love Tara Stiles.... https://www.youtube.com/user/TaraStilesYoga She has a LOT of great videos. I also love Eckhart yoga... https://www.youtube.com/user/yogatic . She ALSO has great videos.

    Good luck!

I agree with picking up some free weights and looking up videos that show how to do things properly. I usually youtube stuff and browse bodybuilding.com. I'm not a "body builder" but it contains a lot of good info. Best wishes.

Yoga, bodyweight exercises (You Are Your Own Gym or Convict Conditioning), and begin incorporating free weights. The problem with free weights at home is that if you purchase weights that are too light, you will quickly outgrow their use. Keep up the biking at higher intensity as well.

Free weights will def help, but read new rules for lifting first, its an eye opener. like you i was overwhelmed by the techy side of the weights thing, but someone on here recommended the book, and WOW, it all makes sense. and explains about form, and will put a lot of your worries to rest, even if you read it and just take the advice and use something else for the routines.
    Best of luck.

all that jiggles is fat. use the weights but your diet will determine the remaining fat loss
