Hello! I an a beginner to routine exercise, and would love to hear what anyone has to say.

I have spent the past several months getting my eating habits solid and habitual. I haven't been focusing on adding in an exercise routine because in the past when I tried to overhaul my diet and add in regimented exercise, I didn't have success. I bit off more than I could chew: too many changes at once. I currently only exercise intermittently (although I live in New York so spend a lot of time walking) and when I do exercise it is either a yoga class or a run.

I am getting close to my initial goal weight, and I am hoping to develop an exercise routine that will allow me to gain flexibility and tone my body. My hope is that as I lose these last 10 lbs, I will be able to also work on shaping. I REALLY WANT TO START SLOW: I want to gradually build this in to my life.

...so...what do you suggest? What sort of cardio / strength training is ideal for a beginner?

I did the same as you - started with my diet and slowly added in some exercise. I recommend C25k (couch to 5k) running program - there's a free app available for iPhones and Android phones. I also now do heavy lifting which is awesome. I highly recommend that as well. Best of luck to you and congratulations on your accomplishments so far!

Yeah i realised this for myself too. Now that my eating is good and i don t stress about it plus i am about 10 lbs from what i think is my goal. I lift weights 2 x a week, i plan to slowly increase the weight and add one day a week, over a period of time.

Get into Push up plank position, lower down to laying on your tummy, lift into cobra, then up into down dog and hold
