So my mom is over visiting me from Canada for 3 weeks and its great....but its making eating hard and its only day 2!!! I've totally lost my routine. As well being out and about which has meant food on the go and my mom has a major sweet tooth which means sweet stuff coming into the house.

She's really proud of what I have accomplished so far (she knows how hard it is as she is big too) but there is no give in her eating patterns. I don't know what to do. I have a certain level of self-control these days but not enough. To make the situation even worse, I got married a week ago and my husband is not back in the country with me (his date of return is unknown). Any advice/support would be greatly appreciated. :frown:

Ask her to keep her sweets in her room, or at least not somewhere where you can access it. Tell her not to offer you any, either. Try to eat before you go out and about. This way, you may be back before the next meal, or if you have to eat a meal out, it's only one meal. Good luck!

Take along a little something of healthier alternatives for when you're out and about. Pack a pbj on light whole grain bread, baby carrots, an apple, a banana... Just because she's grabbing food on the run, doesn't mean you have to. :) I deal with this too as I am a SAHM and do a lot of traveling with kids in the AM. They get hungry and need to eat, so I've started bringing containers of grapes and apples to curb their urges and mine!

This does sound tough, but you can definitely do it. One thing that I do when I'm with other people and having a hard time staying on a healthy eating track is to say things to them like "I'm not going to have any of that cake." (Not in a mean way, just like stating a fact.) Then, even I find myself really tempted, I'll remember that I told them that I wasn't going to have any and I wouldn't want them to think I'm full of BS when I say things. I don't know if that's helpful at all, but it's something that works for me. Good luck and check in at MFP frequently for encouragement!

Take over the control. While she is your Mother - she is a guest in YOUR home. YOU do the cooking and the shopping - make yummy healthy meals for her! Fresh fruit with some fat free whipped topping for dessert!

I totally do this too! It's too embarrassing to go back on it once you've said it out loud:), but it seriously helps to verbally say no.
