Hi! I'm Katey, a 27 year old nursing student from Charlotte, NC. I have been bigger all of my life but never did anything about it because I had my friends and I have such an outgoing personality that I never had a problem going out and feeling like I was a part of something. Then I noticed that all of my friends were pairing up...everyone was getting engaged...married...having kids, and there I was...the same place that I was when we were all going out in college. I noticed that the guys that I liked loved me as a friend...but wanted to date one of my other friends. I also have started taking nutrition at school and realized that I was headed down a very dangerous road. Everything that my teacher was saying...obesity...sedentary lifestyle...cancer...heart disease...diabetes...just rang true for me and I wanted to crawl under the table. I took a really honest look at myself and realized I wasn't as "together" as I thought I was. So this is day 2. I have decided on the Mediterranean Diet because it lets me eat all of the foods I love, plus drink the WINE, and I wouldn't feel unsatisfied. I also am going to the gym and have decided on a 3.5 mile loop to the local park and back for daily exercise. I am going to make this change for me, to make me happy, to make me a healthy person, and just so I FEEL BETTER!!! Thanks for listening, and good luck!

Hello Katey! First, congratulations nursing school! Such a great profession to be undertaking! Like you, I have been bigger all my life and have decided to change some things in my life. Don't think of this as a diet, make it a change in lifestyle, because diets fail but lifestyle changes will be for a long term. Welcome aboard!

Katey, welcome. Like Kay said it's a lifestyle change not a diet. I made the change back in January. Since then, I am down 120 pounds and completely off all bp and cholesterol meds. Feel free to add me because I have been in your shoes and would love to help you along your journey to the new you.
