What is your best time of day to work out?

I have found I can run in the morning no problem, but lifting weights? Forget it. I might be able to do 10 pushups in the morning, but 40 in the afternoon.

Lifting weights I've gone through cycles, there have been times that I have had great workouts at night, but lately it seems it has to be in the afternoon. Morning I feel too weak or tight, and in the evening I am just to tired to muster up a good workout.

Anyone else similar or have opposite rhythms? What do you do to improve your workouts when they have to be in one of your bad times?

I find that for me, a lot of my workout success with lifting in particular depends on how fueled I am. I find it difficult to work out first thing in the morning because I haven't eaten enough food. I know some combat this by carb loading the night before, but I really do get better performance if I've gotten a decent meal somewhat digested before I work out (and some hydration in).

I've come to realize it's mostly mental. At least for me it is. If I can do 40 pushups in the afternoon, then I can do 40 in the morning, I just have to find a way to push myself to do them rather than quit at 25 or find some excuse to not work out at all.

Frankly, caffeine is one of the best things I've found for getting the most out of my workouts. Calories can matter, but more so for longer workouts.

I do my lifting early in the morning before work....about 5am. I don't know that it's my best workouts, but if I wait until after work, I'm tired and lose motivation and am more likely to pass on the gym, so I do mornings. I'm definitely tighter in the morning and have to pay more attn to warming up.

I am the opposite of you, OP. I like to lift weights in the morning but prefer to run at night. But I end up doing them at whatever time best fits in my schedule for the day. I think the running works best for me at night because I've been up and moving enough throughout the day to feel more warmed up all over. I warm up for lifting but don't seem to need as much as a warm up as I do for running.

I'm the exact opposite. Lifting in the afternoon never works for me, so I lift around 5:30am fasted. Cardio goes better after I've eaten, so I typically go afterwork or at least after some food and later in the morning on weekends.

there's no greater feeling for me than to be standing in ankle deep snowstormness, at 5:27 in the morning, waiting for the gym employees to get there at open the door. Those mornings are perfection.

I don't know about performance wise, I'm not super serious yet, in fact I still hate it. But, I find if I don't do it by noon, I completely lose motivation and it just won't happen

I get up at 430 every morning and am running by 5 or at the gym by 530.... afternoons and evenings are guaranteed duds for me.
