Seafood Sticks.... Healthy snack or not?

Hi,

I have been munching on seafood sticks as a mid morning snack, as they're low in fat and calories, but I'm not sure if they're actually good for you or not. I try to steer clear of processed foods, and I know that these are heavily processed, but they appear healthy. It's confusing.

Are you talking about surimi sticks (also commonly known as crab sticks)?

If so, there is nothing really bad about it. Sodium tends to be somewhat high but other than that, it's perfectly fine.
Almost no fat and a decent amount of protein.

It is basically just various lean white fish meats ground up and formed.

I was wondering this myself. Processed meat gets a lot of flak, but I wonder about processed fish. Crab sticks, frozen Thai fish cakes, but also smoked salmon and mackerel, Spanish mojama. I like them all.

They are a good choice for a low cal high protein snack. But they ARE very processed, so it depends on your reasons for avoiding processed foods.
