First day back in the gym after a illness

Hello.
I had to take an entire week to recoup and recover from something that I an pretty sure came from hell itself.
I feel 95% better, except I do have a lingering chest cough.
I do plan to take it slow, but need to get my butt up off the couch and get myself back into this. I have lost 30lbs so far and this sickness won't stop me.
When you first get back into the gym after illness, what is the overall recommendation on how to do it?
I planned to go slow, and just listen to my body. If I start hacking up a lung then I know I need to give it a few more days. Lol
Anyway, just curious how others have done that first day back?

If I've only taken a week off, I just pick up where I left off. It's not really a big deal.0

Depends what your gym routine consists of. Clearly you want to strike the balance between not pushing too hard to pushing hard enough. Not injuring yourself. Assess your performance based on your previous times and how you feel. Theres no point overdoing it.
If its weights then you should know at what weight you left off, so maybe do a few tries with a lesser weight and if you manage it easily then just adjust up till you get to the level you know the last few reps are pretty hard. Always keep form and you must never risk injuring yourself.
Do weights before cardio.
If you have had enough, then go home. Normal rules of be hydrated and have some carbs in you for energy prior and then make sue you get enough protein duing the day for muscle replacement. If you arent doing weights then you should be.
I do all the above. Safety first, then form and then ensuring I get a good workout without overdoing it.0 -
I took two weeks due to a cold/ebola mix.
Just got back in there and moved a little less weight and a few less reps. Was prepared mentally for the DOMS price that would be exacted. So I pounded a ton of aleve, and did three workouts in three days. Man. Last workout was Wednesday, DOMS stopped yesterday.
Just don't push too hard, listen to your body and your lungs.0 -
somebody with a chest cough in the gym better be sure to wipe down all equipment with the antiseptic0

Wipe that bar down too. I do not know where those hands have been.

one of the beauties of barbell training- so much LESS to wipe down- it's amazing. - okay perhaps amazing is a stretch- but its' a definite perk- I only ever have to wipe down the bench- and then the leg press machine- and I only use the leg press once a week.

I was out for 7 weeks with pneumonia and I was so weak just taking a shower meant I had to sit down and rest for 10 minutes. I finally started moving again on November 3 and just walked. Over the next few days I was able to walk faster and further, and now I'm back up to running and doing 30DS. It's been a long, slow process, though. I hope I never get pneumonia again!0

I forgot what it was called. lol.0

lolz.
something like a Jefferson deadlift or something like that. Not a hack... not a suitcase... or it was something that was invented by the Sopranos. ha ha.0 -
Yes, cause it's moving on up (into the wedding tackle)
A Jefferson squat! Ain't that some weird bunk. lol.0 -
If you're all better from your cold or whatever you might find that you are able to do just what you were doing before. It shouldn't really affect what you can do because you haven't been out that long.
The cold itself, if it's lingering might, if as you said you start coughing up a lung or something. Whenever I've had to take breaks from working out for whatever reason I found it pretty easy to jump right back in. With the exception of the time i had a debilitating back problem that required months of bedrest. That led to atrophy and yes, that did impact my getting back to it. Random cold's and flu's not so much.
