Congratulations on finding us! There are some really great people here who are very supportive and knowledgeable, but also provide some tough love and hard truths. Just know that the vast majority of people here want you to succeed.
If you do a forum search for "sexypants" you'll find a thread that will help you get started. I'd do it for you but I'm about to leave for work.
Good luck!0 -
Erin, your post just breaks my heart. You can turn this around, without a shadow of a doubt. First of all, believe that. You are only 21, you have the rest of your life to make these changes, little by little. Take time to fill out your profile so others can see you and know a little about you. friend me if you like, I am much older but will certainly support you, as long as you don't give up! I will try and get you some more useful info.0

Hi Erin,
I have done fitness pal on and off for awhile. I live in Kentucky and would enjoy connecting with on here. Maybe we can help each other !!!0 -
Welcome and look on the bright side. Today is the first day of the rest of your life and your future is not your past or your present.
good luck on your journey0 -
Erin, you will find a world of support here. I am not one to post anything, ( I just lurk around ) but reading your post made me want to encourage you to hang around and gain some of the great knowledge on here. This is a great starting point for you. Good Luck to you!0

Hi Erin,
I understand what that feels like. I'm only a few years older than you, and when I was 21, I was also struggling to lose weight without support from anyone in my life. You will find an abundance of support here. You made a wonderful first step in joining! Good luck on your journey and feel free to add me as a friend if you would like.0 -
Welcome Erin - you are now with like-minded fellows - and friends. We are all on route to a bright future. No looking back!
This time next month you could well be feeling fantastic.
This time next year other people may be asking how you got to look so fantastic too!
There is lots of advice out there. I agree with suggestions here - look at the page for starting up and take heart from the success stories you will find.
Be kind to others and don't take offence at the dafter things you will read on the forums.
Just follow your plan and take one day at a time.0 -
Erin, I'm going to tell you what I'd tell me at 21 if I could... I don't care where you are in terms of a number on a scale right now. I don't care how long you've been carrying your weight. I don't care how long it might take you. This is what's going to have to click for you... you ready? Take it one step at a time. Don't start out overhauling your diet over night. Cut 2 things out. Or don't cut anything out, but begin by eating only one serving size of whatever you want and LOG IT. If all you can do right now is walk to the end of the block, rock that walk to the end of the block!
I PROMISE you you WILL get better little by little. One day you'll be getting ready for bed and realize you didn't think about grabbing for a soda, or didn't even think twice about eating a fruit instead of a dessert after dinner. Then you'll progress and take another step, and so on and so forth until you finally climb this everest. If you commit to being consistent with small changes, they WILL make a dent, you WILL be able to do more and push yourself harder each and every time. I PROMISE you you will be amazed at what you can do if you just believe in yourself and manage to wrap your mind around how amazing you are. Whether it takes you 2 months or 2 years to lose all you've got to lose, this time will pass and the only difference between staying the same and getting better is you. And you HAVE to believe in yourself. You have to believe you can do it because just right here there are countless people who came from where you are right now or further and have accomplished what you want to accomplish.
All those cliche's "if i can do it, you can do it" "no pain no gain" (can't think of any right now) they're all cliche's for a reason. THEY'RE TRUE! You CAN do this, and you WILL do this. You just have to erase "try" from your mental vocabulary and replace it with "do".
I believe in you!0 -
You can do this. You have it in you. You have so much life ahead of you and you so can do this. One step. One day at a time. Slips can always be made up. I wish I'd have committed to changing my life in my twenties instead of my fifties. Don't feel the same way years from now.0
