heart rate monitor/calorie counter

So, I already got the fitbit flex for my birthday in September but now i'm looking at heart rate/calorie counter devices to figure out how many calories i'm actually burning with my workouts.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I was looking at the Polar FT7 Fitness Heart Rate Monitor Blue Lilac 90048735 Women's HRM for $69.99 but noticed that there are generic models for $9.99.

A heart rate monitor with a chest strap is going to be more accurate than the wrist only jobs. Wrist straps will be affected by arm movements, so with some models you need to stay still to take a reading & so readings are once in awhile as opposed to constant.
HRM's are designed for steady state cardio....workouts that don't fit this criteria....HRM's aren't nearly as useful.
I have a Polar FT4....I don't use it at a gym, so I don't worry about interference from other monitors.

I have a Wahoo Bluetooth HRM, and I love it. I have the Tickr X model. Connects over Bluetooth to your phone, and partners with alot of apps, MFP, Runkeeper, Nike+, strava, etc. There is also the BlueHR and the regular TickR that are a little cheaper. The Tickr X saves data to the unit if there is no phone connected for up to 16hrs of work outs, then syncs once you get back to within Bluetooth range though, which I wanted. It also does cadence and pace and can even change songs by taping it.
I know the new thing is the fitness bands with optical heart rate monitoring, but seems like there is still some controversy over the accuracy there. HRM's are pretty well proven at this point.
If you have any questions about the Wahoo just send me a message0 -

What type of exercise do you do?
The idea that an HRM is inherently "more accurate" has more to do with marketeers than reality in most cases.0 -
