Eating during the holidays

How is everyone planning on eating over the next 5-6 weeks? I have at least one holiday party (2 weeks I have 2-3 each of those weeks!). I only am losing 1 lb per week and don't know if I should just be happy if I maintain or cut way back on the calories on the days I don't have a party. What is everyone's opinions? I really don't want to eat like a rabbit.

I'm eating whatever I want on the actually feasting days, maybe maintenance on a few others. But really, who am I kidding? I haven't lost weight in weeks so I've been eating at maintenance already anyway.
Food. Glorious food.0 -

Eat, log, move on.0

gorge on the days i can and then try to eat as normally as possible. emphasis on the "possible"0
-
Fortunately I don't have much planned so I'm going to just enjoy myself and log as best I can. Do a little extra cardio if I feel bloated and pick back up from wherever I end up at the beginning of next year.0

I will eat whatever I want. I'll be up ten pounds. It'll go away in three or four days.0

I dont let man made systemic "holidays" fool me anymore, my health is just that "myhealth" I no longer buy into things that made me unhealthy in the past0 -
I am going to eat whatever is in front of me on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and any important party. I will increase my exercise and try to balance it out, but I refuse to miss out on a feast.0

Thanks everyone!0

I have 4 holidays parties to go to between December 11 and December 20th. I'm totally screwed!!0
-
I set my goal for maintenance during the holidays. I don't go crazy, but I do indulge in moderation.0
-
I enjoy my actual holidays and do what I want...but I don't treat the entire two months between Halloween and New Years as some kind of binge fest...there's far more to this season than stuffing your face full of *kitten* day in and day out.
I eat pretty much the same as I always eat this time of year, save for the actual occasions. I eat well and exercise regularly just like any other time of the year.0 -
I'm in maintenance, but last year when I was losing, I made it a point to gain NO weight during this season - I ate what I wanted during the 'feasting days', but ate at a regular deficit every other day. THIS year, I am planning on making sure I do not go over 135 pounds. If I do, I'll be right back to eating at a deficit until I hit the low end of my maintenance range again. Good luck!0
-
I'm going to work out more, so I can eat more and still stay within my deficit, or for the big days, within my maintenance.0
-
I would like to lose 5-10 pounds between now and 2015, but I guess I will be happy with just not gaining over the next 6 weeks.0
-
You could eat at maintenance, you don't have to worry about weight gain during those weeks and continue your weight loss after the holidays... or if you want to keep losing weight, may I suggest you choose to lose .5lb/week in the meantime. :flowerforyou:0

For me, the holidays are Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve and not Thanksgiving thru New Year’s Eve. This means I will not log on those three days but will continue with my weight loss routine on all other days in between.0

Pretty much do what I normally do. Log/workout as usual, and just eat the special holiday dishes in moderation. For parties/business meetings/trips, I just have one alcoholic drink and skip the nibbles (they're just never worth it to me), and that won't change. The only difference is that the extra workout calories are likely to be used for things like mince pies, Christmas cake and port rather than my usual snacks, and on Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year I won't worry about the total calories.
I'll probably try and workout a bit more, but simply because I take vacation at the end of the year and I have more time to do so.
I like my lifestyle. I don't want to change it.0 -
how i approach holiday season is to maintain my weight. so it allows me to indulge a bit more but not over do it.
how i indulge.
i spend my calories on things i don't normally eat at home that i like. i.e. pumpkin pie. i don't make or eat pumpkin pie at home but i love it so i eat that. i don't normally eat mashed potatoes so i have a good portion of that. i skip on bread or have a small piece of it (i can eat good bread anytime and i do). etc. strategize for those higher calorie options which ones are the most important to you and "spend" on those.
also eat on a plate, dont graze.
and once its over its over. no midnight snacks, no rolling over to the next day continuing. once the event/meal is over go back to your normal diet the next meal.
i also have lighter meals on the day I know I'm going to be indulging at an event to help balance my calories. i don't starve myself! i just don't eat a super high calorie meal.0 -
I share this concern. 4 parties the 1st week December, going to NYC for my bday the 2nd week, and more open houses/receptions all the way through. My husband and I share both our birthdays, our anniversary, Christmas and New Years all in a 3-week span. And we celebrate it all!
Like others, I don't worry about the actual holiday meals. Those aren't overboard in my family anyway. It's all the other events that throw off a healthy routine. I don't know what happened to Emily Post's "it's impolite to occupy the dinner hour without offering dinner." I cannot make a dinner of cocktail food, and it's best for me not to try. My best defense is to eat before I go, or at least have carrots & celery in the car on the way. If I'm a little hungry when I arrive, I'll be ravenous after a glass of wine.
Ah, about the wine..... I don't have a strategy for that. My husband is really fun at a party, too, so if he is there, chances are I'll be having more than one glass. I normally reserve wine for weekends only, but I'll end up drinking during the week every week all December. I don't double down on exercise, but I do feel an imperative to stick to the routine I have. Cheers!0 -
I'm planning on eating how I normally do. But on Thanksgiving and Christmas I'll be eating closer to maintenance.
I'm not a drinker so I don't have to worry about calories from alcohol. However, if you do drink, limit yourself to a glass or two. It's all about moderation after all.
Eat something small before you go to holiday parties. That way you aren't ravenous when you arrive and consequently eat everything in sight.
Enjoy yourself. The holidays only happen once a year.

i plan to release all inhibitions on thanksgiving and xmas. i'm a sucker for holidays and really get into them so i'm not going to beat myself up. as for events, i will *try* but not try too hard... today is a company thanksgiving potluck lunch and i'm going to attempt a new plan of action: i used to be a picky eater several years ago so i'm going to employ the "would i have eaten this when i was 16?" tactic and that might save me on a lot of calories but will still allow leeway. 'cause i'll freakin' eat anything now...0
-
I will be eating and logging and moving on. I'm with cwolfman13 on this. Just because it's the holidays it's not reason to go crazy and binge every day. On the actual day that there's something I plan on eating in moderation. For instance, Christmas Eve my family has always gone to an all you can eat chinese buffet. I'll still go but I plan on having smaller portions and staying away from things that I know I could do without (breaded chicken wings for instance). This is still like any other time of the year and I don't plan on treating it any differently.0
-
I'm going to eat whatever I want on actual Thanksgiving and Christmas! Other than that I'll be eating like I am now to keep losing weight Don't want to deprive myself of anything especially on a holiday.0
-
I will be staying on track the entire holiday season, except for the actually holiday, Thanksgiving and Christmas.0
-
I'm actually planning on losing weight pretty aggressively while still allowing myself a few days of unfettered, glorious overindulgence.
Thanksgiving and the day after
Christmas eve, Christmas, and the day after (wife's bday)
New Year's Eve dinner
Christmas is my favorite time of year, and I had planned to be lower in weight in order to enjoy December as a zero sum month to accommodate all the holiday goodies. But I didn't make that happen and I want to finally hit good old onderland by the beginning of 2015, so it's going to be a weight loss working holiday. Which is fine. I've lost during the Christmas season before by adopting some really good, Christmasy treats that are lower in calories but still help me feel like I'm indulging in the tastes of the season.0 -
Since I'm in Canada, we have a little more breathing room between Thanksgiving and Christmas - can I get a hallelujah ?? - but for my family, Christmas is when we get to see everyone and everyone goes to my parents house and we celebrate together, play games, watch movies, sit around and talk until 3 in the morning potentially finishing a bottle or two of wine, it's my absolute favourite time of year and I love seeing my family so I am going to enjoy every single moment of it. I will still continue my workouts and gym time (which is usually in the morning, anyways) and spend time with my family. I love all the food my mom and grandma make so definitely not turning that down.
It comes once a year, and for me it's a special time of year so I'm enjoying it to the max. Everyone deserves a break every now and then.0 -
My plan: indulge on the actual day and not bring any leftover desserts home.0
