Women: Anybody else refuse to weigh in during their period?

I go up around 8-10 pounds near my period and I eat clean 99% of the time. It drops back down to my normal weight about three days after my cycle starts. I still weigh daily during my cycle...mostly out of habit.0

It changes my weight, but I weigh in anyway. It's just information.

I tend to weigh myself daily.. as apart of my morning routine, but I don't track it on MFP. I think I'm going to start doing that. I feel like it would hold me more accountable and make me focus on short term victories as well.

I'm usually up 3-5 pounds when my cycle hits, and knowing that helps me be a little more aware of when it's impending since I'm not regular due to health issues.0 -

yes there are factors that shift water around I'm with you in that. but we aren't talking about hormones, medications, diet, etc. cause all those things are factors without the period.
I'm strictly speaking to the effect of weight gain caused by period.
and if you are losing the same amount you gained because of your period than its a non issue anyways...

Yes. Also, medications like birth control do play a role in period weight gain as well.
True! But generally will only make a difference in your weight when you start them. If you're taking birth control on a regular basis, that shouldn't make a difference.
That's not what I mean at all. Birth control pills can help control water weight gain during your period as they help stabilize your hormones. So it does make a difference, it's just not one that we can see until we stop taking them.

I weigh myself on my usual schedule, about four times weekly, including during that time, but I put all of my weights into a program that analyzes the ups and down and creates a change curve that is an average of my weights, and de-emphasizes the ups and downs. Happyscale is the app. It is actually very helpful.0

I don't weigh but every few months anyway, never noticed significant difference during period. Even if I did, and it came off when it was over I wouldn't even consider that a gain. I would consider it bloat. Like after a night at Oktoberfest. I dunno, I've had my period for over 20 years so I guess I'm just used to it. Or maybe it's that I don't track my weight down to the decimal why it doesn't bother me.0

My weight goes up for that week, 1-5 pounds and then I immediately drop that plus what I would have lost for the week. I skip the weigh in that week because I know it is going to be off. It seems to be different for every woman.
^this, but I don't skip the weigh in. It's awesome to see a 4 pound drop in one day.

I am fine with seeing the fluctuations that happen all the time0 -
It is different for every woman.....I usually gain 4-5 pounds during my time of the month.......some people do gain like 10 pounds.....yeh its crazy, but it is so TRUE!!!!0

A myth? Jesus its actually scientifically proven I do declare. My trainer also will not weight me during my time.

I never skip a weigh in...no matter what. It is what it is. Not weighing in doesn't change the fact. That said, if it discourages you, don't do it.0

I don't put on weight, but it does stall completely the week of my period. I weigh once a week, every week and have come to expect it now.
I'm losing about a pound and a half every week on average, but the week after my period I'm always down about three - it's great!0 -

You should definitely gain a few pounds of water during your period, it is one of the things your body is purposefully trying to make happen to prepare for the baby.0

I weigh daily when I'm at home, whatever. I like to know if a gain is normal for me, or an indication of something else going on with my body. I know that because I've tracked it for so long I have the data.
And as an indication of water weight, I gained about 10 lbs overnight when I had surgery. That's 8% of my body weight.0 -
I gain right before, but the day after it starts, the weight is normal again. Don't get all freaked out about it. You have to look at the long term.0

Yeah, water weight can make a difference. You can gain it when you work out really hard and are sore. It can happen due to hormonal fluctuations -- not only menstruation, but ovulation as well.
I weigh daily because I track it according to a moving average, but the raw number had seemed painted on the scale for the last few days. Last night I think I got up about four times to pee, and lo and behold! In the morning I was down two and a half pounds from the day before.
Very very normal. I strongly encourage anyone weighing daily to take a ten day moving average as their "real" weight so they don't flip out at fluctuations. It helps with trend tracking, too!
