Juice Fast

Considering a juice fast for seven days to fast track the last twenty pounds of excess fat. I know all about eating sensibly or you gain the weight back, but not if you already know how to maintain and choose the right nutrition. I'm just sick of hanging around and this is the low end of the year as regards energy output.
I will of course ensure sufficient protein through a plant based protein powder.
note: I don't expect to lose the whole 20lbs in seven days, but I can put a good dent in it.

but you know you wont just lose fat... most of it will be water... theres no way to 'fast track' the vanity pounds off!0
-
Thanks - I know, but I expect the week to be a time to reflect on my eating habits long term and a way to re-focus. I don't think most of it will be water loss as I will be drinking juice and additional glasses of water.
- the amount of times I go for a swim and catch a gob-full of seawater, my salt intake could be too high (water retention!) so a bit of water-loss wouldn't be a bad thing!0 -
I did a 3 day juice fast and I did lose 3 pounds, 2 of which never came back so i know it works. But it's just a mental challenge more than a physical one.
Based on the research I've done you feel so sluggish and out of it for the first 3 days then your energy levels begin to rise.
I had no problems with energy, I just felt starving at the end of the second day so I decided to only do 3 days.
Afterwards I could notice my appetite wasn't so big, I made healthier decisions so I approve of the reboot.
I probably want to incorporate green juice more into my regular diet, maybe have it replace a meal (breakfast or dinner or a snack) and that's on route to a healthier lifestyle.
I'm not going to slate you for trying. If you have the will power go for it, I wish you the best of luck!0 -
Not for me! but 7 days isn't going to do much harm.
I wouldn't last half a day I need food
Good luck0 -
Thank you Tropical - I agree it is more likely to be a mental rather than physical change and I look forward to a possible lower appetitie which will help long term and my plan is to re-think my food decisions while I take the time-out.0

I have a juicer and haven't tried it yet. When I asked for some advice someone said that you are really really hungry doing just juice. A juicer pulls out all of the pulp so you are just getting juice and no fiber, so it's not very filling.0

- thanks Alan; as you say - not going to do much harm and it could be the break I need, if only to change some bad eating choices/habits.0
-
hehe I'm Emma but Alan will do.
If it helps, I ate nothing but blended frozen fruit and yogurt when I had my tongue pierced as I couldn't have any solids! I lost 7lbs in a week!0 -
- now that sounds like a yummy diet I could get used to for a week!
- sorry - Emma!
- not sure I want to go to the extremes of a tongue piercing though!0 -
Yeah that was no choice juice fast, couldn't even have soup as the heat hurt me! Yes wouldn't recommend it. I don't have the piercing any more :P0

You will mostly lose water weight. If you're at a very high deficit (which is common in most juice fasts), you'll lose muscle. Adding some protein powder won't help if you're at a high deficit.
You will also have a lot of trouble pooping, since you're removing fibre and adding protein powder.
Why not eat the foods that you would be juicing? There's nothing evil about apple skin. In fact, many fruits and vegetables contain awesome vitamins and minerals in their most fibrous bits.
A 7 day break from eating, if anything, is likely to cause you to binge on those foods when you go back to eating them again. All good things in moderation. I've lost 54 lbs so far, 12 lbs to go. I eat chocolate most days.0 -

A day without chocolate is not a good one0 -
Just nail down your calories in vs. calories out and keep up the exercise and those last 20 pounds will come. Diligence is key.0

I didn't use a juicer, but I did a few weeks fruits/veggie diet through the blender. I t incredible.

- thanks - I am listening to the cons as well as the pros - all feedback is useful.
- I suppose, looking on the other side of things - it is a waste of good natural digestive fibre!0 -
I would miss chewing things.0

Hi, I did a 7-day juice fast (Juicemaster) in August and I lost 8lb, then lost another couple and haven't put it back on! It gave me the kick start I needed to really get going with healthy eating. I now have one more stone to lose but I felt fantastic after it. The first couple of days were tough, mainly because of caffeine and sugar withdrawal. I was a bit hungry on day one because I didn't prepare properly and hadn't brought enough juices in flasks to work. I was ok after though. In fact I think the word fast isn't right for the Juicemaster programme - you're actually getting quite a lot of calories because a lot of the juices have avocado blended in.
I'd recommend it for everyone!
I still do the odd juice only day and incorporate green juices into my diet most days to get loads of veggies like kale in without having the hassle of eating half a pack at a time!
I'd really like some advice on how to log the juices on MyFitnessPal. I have no idea how many cals they are really - and I don't know if I should just put all the ingredients in or if the cals are different when the pulp is out. Any advice?

I am thinking the fibre you throw away is minimal calories so I would log the ingredients as if you were eating them even though you are juicing.0

You won't have any trouble pooping. If you do, you can always add flaxseed meal in or take a smooth move tea or do a saltwater flush. I did the lemonade cleanse for 7 days. I never was real hungry if I continued to sip throughout the day and kept busy. After day 3 you feel this great healthy feeling. But it is very mental so if you don't mentally prepare it won't succeed. Lots of social stuff is around food especially if you have a family. If you maintain not overeating and eating healthy you won't regain.0

What's the point of this post? Just curious, because you're not really asking anyone for any input and basically arguing your point on why you really want to do it. Are you wondering if it has been helpful for other people who have actually done it? Are you wanting to know if it's a good idea? Do you want to hear why many many people think it's a poor "quick fix" idea? Not sure what you're looking for....0
