I'm Hillary.

My scale must be wrong. There is no way I lost 9 pounds my 1st week!

Sure there is. Mostly water, probably. If you completely changed your diet, it's possible.

Last year I went on "The Plan" for 5 months. Lost 10 lbs the first 4 days.

Welcome to MFP and congratulations on your first week down!

As Torontonius said, it's mostly water. You may see some of it come back next week, or some of it may come back when you hit your maintenance calories and your bodies restores it's glycogen levels. Weigh often comes off in weird jumps, and it will fluctuate a lot over any given day or week. Don't get frustrated or confused. Just keep eating less, moving more, and logging everything!

Make sure the changes are ones you can live a very long time with. Often times at the beginning you have a lot of drive and motivation, and people try too hard to get there too fast. After a few months it's too much to sustain, because they feel deprived. And when they fall off the wagon, they fall hard. Best of luck to you!
