Hi, I'm obviously new here and need to do something to lose weight. My goal is to lose about 50 pounds. But here is my problem. I have 2 very painful knees which makes exercise difficult which makes losing weight difficult. The extra pounds are a BIG factor in my knee problems although not the only problem. I have blood clots in my leg and lung and also Grave's disease (hyperthyroidism), however the meds have made me gain weight. Sometimes I think I'm fighting a losing battle. Any advice you all can give I would greatly appreciate it.

The secret to losing weight is to consume less calories than you burn. Exercise isn't required for weight loss, but is for overall health. I would start with finding the calorie number that lets you lose. (you can get an idea at http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/) try the number it gives you for two weeks. Log everything that you eat, your most accurate way will be if you weigh everything to get the most accurate logging possible). After two weeks if you haven't lost anything you need to reduce the calorie number (I would reduce by no more than 200 at a time, not going under 1,200). If you still aren't seeing a loss, I would speak with your doctor.

As for exercise, find a low or no impact exercise that you are able to do. Anything is better than nothing, so if you can't walk for 15 minutes try walking for 5 minutes a few times a day, slowly increasing the time as your body allows. Swimming is also a great no impact exercise.

I agree with the person above the losing weight is much more in how many calories we consume rather than working out, thought working out is important in just overall being healthy and fit. One thing is for certain, it definitely helps to have people you are traveling on the same journey and giving you motivation. feel free to ad me, I'm always up for a motivation

    walk, walk, walk.

Easy on the knees, great for creating a calorie deficit and improving cardiovascular health & endurance.

Calorie deficit has been my biggest success. I am not good about exercise. I get in a fair amount of walking most days at work, but I don't count on it. I set my activity level as "sedentary" and choose my average weekly weight loss, and any activity is a bonus. 27 pounds later, it's coming off a little slowly, but what I lose is staying off. (I've been at it for about a year.)

Thanks guys..I went to log my meal yesterday, how do you do that when it is something like homemade meatloaf? It asks for all the other information and won't let you move on without providing counts from the label? Unless I'm just missing something. Edit…never mind….You can do it from the computer, but don't seem to do it from the app.
