I am a 23 year old from Western Australia, I have been over weight most of my life.
when I was 19 I reached a weight of 113kg and that's when I was recommended Reductil by my Doctor. I was very successful on this weight loss medication and managed to get down to 82Kg I was cycling 2 hours a day very active and felt fantastic.

My excuse which has been for the last few years was I broke my foot which ended up healing wrong and caused a lot of pain, then I had to wait about a year to go in for surgery to get it fixed. Also during that time Reductil was pulled from the market and I wasn't able to come off it the way I felt I needed to. I think went through a whole bunch of emotional stuff.

Here I am now at 160kg.

Over the last few months Ive made changes such as gone from eating McDonalds 1-2 times a day to not eating fast food at all. Ive also started a more active job where I am on my feet all day (I was in an office job for the last 2 years) I feel this has improved my fitness even if so slightly it all makes a difference.

I started drinking a hell of a lot more water and cut out soft drink, but the soft drink has slowly come back. I just has my last can of coke which I didn't finish because I decided right then and there that enough was enough. For to long I have made excuses and being 160kg is no excuse.
giving up because I got an injury was no excuse and just because I had a few things going on does not mean I should have stopped. They should have all been reasons to keep going!

About 6 months ago I went to see a doctor to book in for Gastric Banding surgery, I then booked my surgery which is on the 17th of January. I am still not 100% sure if it is the right choice for me but it is an option.

Anyway I thought I would make a few commitments.

I will walk for at least 30 minutes a day minimum (not including work)

I will cut out my soft drink

I will continue to avoid fast foods

I will drink water

and I will continue to update my profile on myfitnesspal

With these commitments I plan to loose 10kg by the 17th of January.

I'm not sure if this is realistic but let me know what you guys think about my commitments/goal and if you have any other ideas tips.

Thanks

Nell

Nell, you are young and you really do have everything it takes to win this war. Just know that the battle will rage on very possibly throughout your life but you will pick up new habits and drop old ones and begin to see that you are worth living for. :)

First of all congratulation on making opositive lifestyle changes, I know that it is not easy. I have friends who have gone thru with gastric bypass and have been happy with the results. I personally don't think it is the best choice. If you have the will, then you will find a way. Keep up your reat habits of drinking water and walking 30 minutes a day. Re evaluate your goal 2-4 weeks before surgery and determine what the best choice is for you.
