I am in Australia and I don't think we have anything like cool whip. What exactly is it?

It is a whipped topping that is supposed to emulate cream that you would put on top of pies, cakes or gelatin. Its super sweet and light and fluffy though I think it is more oil than cream.

Ok thanks for the info. Doesn't sound like something I would like to try even if we had it here.

As others have said, it's a fake whipped cream product that is usually purchased frozen in plastic tubs. Originally, it had trans-fats in it but I think that the recipe has changed over time.

This was on ACA once as it contains trans-fat, banned in US and other countries but not in Australia and sure enough it's in canned cream.

it may taste good, but nutritionally, it's the grossest thing ever. ;P it's just aerated oil and sugar - blech!! it'd be much better to go with real whipped cream in reasonable amounts. :)

Here’s what whipped cream is made of:

    cream, sugar.

You can make it at home in 5 minutes. Your 10 year old can do it too.

Here is the ingredient list for Kraft’s Cool Whip:

Water, Corn Syrup, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Coconut and Palm Kernel Oils), High Fructose Corn Syrup, Less than Two Percent of Sodium Caseinate (from Milk), Natural and Artificial Flavor, Xanthan and Guar Gums, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Monostearate, Beta Carotene (Color).

try 2 tsp of light sour cream and drizzle some honey over the top - better than cool whip - tastes good as well ! Have this on top of baked apples with cinnamon - hmmmmmmmmm!

    Haha thats harsh. Vegemite rocks.

Anyway back on topic, I think if I wanted cream, I would just have the real thing. Cool whip or even cream in a can just doesn't sound appealing lol.

So if cool whip is basically oil and sugar (plus additives), what is in fat free cool whip?

Ugh fake cream <shudder>. Mind you, I don't really like real cream that much - if I'm doing desserts chez nous, I'll get some meringue nests, fill mine with natural yoghurt, OH's with vanilla ice cream, then add some fruit and balsamic glaze, maybe chopped nuts over both.

    Vegemite's OK but Marmite rules!
