The big calorie counting strawman.

Recently an article came out that has been circulating on facebook and now on MFP. James Krieger wrote a nice rebuttal to it which I'll link below.
I'll also add that in addition to strawman arguments there's a big false dilemma that tends to occur with calorie naysayers. The original article assumes that if you're counting calories you must be neglecting micro and macronutrition and basically disregarding the importance of food selection. This is incorrect because it's not an A or B scenario. One can track calories WHILE ALSO paying close attention to overall nutrient sufficiency, satiety, and food selection/etc.

Next thing you know, someone will come out and say that our ancestors were nutrient deficient, that they got by living that way and that nutrients are overated.

Why is it every time some jagweed realizes protein is important they think they can ignore everything else? Yes, you have to watch your calories AND your macros. It's not an either or situation. Though if all you care about is losing weight, you can ignore macros. You just won't love the results. But calories matter most of all.
Now if only there were some online way of tracking all this... a site that counts calories AND macros... but where could we find something like that?
You should totally start a site like that. Think of the number of people who would flock there.0
