My boyfriend has expressed interest in buying a weight vest to wear, so I'm trying to find out more info about them. What kind of exercises are best that you can do with a weight vest? Is it healthy to wear it most of the day? When are the best times to wear them? Thanks! :)

Just my 2 cents on ther issue.. I wear body armor and its no fun. i am sure that would be like a weight vest// they make you hot and miserable all day. You would probably be more inclined to get up and move around more if you were not wearing extra weight.

It's a vest that you wear with different weights inside of it. I'm not sure if it's good for building upper body strength when doing exercises or what...

I have one, though rarely use it. If I remember correctly, it weight 40 lbs. I also have 5lb ankle and wrist weights. I have never exercised in them, only worn them around the house.

One thing I can say, after wearing these for several hours, you will feel all bouncy after!

They are good for adding weight to normally body weight exercises...like pushups, pullups, situps etc. Good for progression on those types of exercises.
So people use them for add difficulty to a good bush walk, or mountain walk etc.

Dont wear it all day, lol. Though i understand that the thinking there would be to increase caloric burn yes?

Much better ways to do that. like cold water only showers of +5 minutes(i do these ones), thermogenic foods, like a good coffee drank hot, or, my personal favourite (LOL), doing sets of 20 squats periodically throughout the day!

I'll relay that info to him. :) He usually doesn't feel like walking with me in the mornings, so I'll probably try to get him in the routine of doing some push ups, squats etc before work.

we do the weights on our ankles and my husband has expressed getting the vest and its a great idea! it adds the weight so that you burn more calorie, and SWEAT MORE UGH, while you walk...which is what we do...he walks a 4 mile route many times a week with the 10lb weights on his ankles and we are going to soon buy the vest. All those weights are adjustable, take out the small weight packets so you can have less poundage on you. but you should start off with a smaller amount of weight or do it for small periods of time and have LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER! GOOD LUCK!

I have one!! I've had it for a little over a month now!!! I love it love it love it! I use mine for hiking the mountain and for walking....I also sometimes use it for quats...It kicks your body into push mode..same concepts as when you weight more your body works harder. I have a 20lbs vest!!!

Doesn't seem like a bad idea.

I train with a 25lb weight vest and not only does it increase caloric burn, it also helps increase stamina when doing cardio and/or circuit training. Word of advice - it is NOT easy to just throw on an extra 25lbs of weight and run a round of circuit with it on. You need to be in tune with what your body is telling you and NOT kill yourself using it.

I personally wear a permanent 40 pound weight vest all of the time. It's called "mah belly".

Great idea! I do my pull-ups with a back pack loaded with plates. Wicked.
