Hi all,

I weighed in this morning, same as I have been for the last million days. I don't have a lot to lose, and I always end up dieting too extreme to see the numbers on the scale move. I've set my goal at 1400 calories, I'm 5'3 and 134.5lbs. How the heck to stay motivated when I continually see no change on the darn scale...

I check my logging and that im weighing stuff. My get out of jail card is exercise to burn more calories.

the scale isn't the only measurement Have you made friends with the tape measure? It might be inches you're losing. The scale is fickle... it's always changing, going up and going down.. not necessarily according to what we're doing.

See if you can't think of other ways to stay motivated besides the numbers :) Better fitting clothes, your skin, your energy level etc.

How can you be sad when you're already at a healthy weight? I'm the same height and I'm struggling to get where you're at. Stop stressing so much about it. Live life. If your body wants to it'll lose the weight, but remember you're already at a good weight.

Thanks all, you guys are right. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not just doing this to see the NUMBER on the SCALE move. The scale is an almost arbitrary measure - let me think for a minute of all the reasons to eat better and exercise:

    1. to get out of my own head!
    2. to have better fitting clothes
    3. for a flat tummy that I know is there!
    4. for some renewed energy and focus
    5. for ME time
    6. for the feeling I get after I finish a workout
    7. so I can stop that voice in my head that says, over and over "go to the gym!"

Are you lifting, which would give you more tone and better body shape in a way that merely losing weight will not?

Yeah, but I could lift more and more frequently, for sure. I've got good muscle memory so it happens quick, but I just gotta do it.

I'm not sure what "dieting too extreme to see the numbers on the scale move" means. If you diet and exercise, you will lose. People go through periods when they don't lose. That happens. You keep at it and you will succeed. :)

Motivation comes from you. If you want it, you do. If you don't, you don't.

It sounds like maybe you need patience more than motivation. Just hang in there. Switch it up. Try new things. Wait. If you work hard, you will lose! Maybe not as fast as you'd like, lol, but it will happen!

Looking at your diary, you have a lot of missing days and days over. With almost nothing to lose logging has to be tight. It's kind of frustrating, so alternately, you can just lift weights and go for a recomp.

Hey, we're about at the same point! I'm 5'2" and 132lbs right now. I've plateaued. It kind of sucks, but just keep at it; diet and exercise, rinse/repeat, and don't get discouraged!

thanks all! i made it to the gym, did some lifting which was pretty good. need to plan my workouts in advance, though, i think.

toast4nat - hey, yes we are pretty close!! how much have you lost so far? and how much left to go??

My counter says I've only lost 3 lbs but that's incorrect, I've lost 8 lbs since Sept. 20 which is when I got back on the wagon. I want to get to 120, though I'm not sure that's possible if I keep gaining muscle.

Everyone has goals, just because she is already at the goal you want to be at, doesn't mean she should settle.

We will all get there. Patience. It really slows down toward the end. I waited weeks and weeks to jump from 140 to 139.
