Is anyone else getting incredibly nervous? A couple months in and holidays.

While I'm really proud to have made it 2 months into my weight loss journey and my lifestyle change, I still find myself feeling extremely nervous about backsliding and the time it takes to see progress with this process. My gym has closed the dance rooms (where I attend my daily workout classes) for 10 full days, starting today. so I plan to go to the gym and do H.i.i.t on the treadmill instead. The last few days weren't awful but they weren't my best and I just feel completely stressed out about that. Anyone going through the same? Any advice?

I get extremely stressed out. I do a lot of drinking during the holidays. I am trying to log my food and exercise for most of the month and do couple hours of exercise during Christmas. Hopefully I can manage to maintain. But I do feel anxiety and I dont want to screw up the progress I've made. Best of luck to you!0

hey, my gym closed for 2 weeks to move to a new location ...... I survived, found other forms of exercise, even if it was just hoofing it around the local mall ..... relax !0

There are certain times of the year where it's easier than others. You will face more setbacks when you find the gym has exploded with people from 01 Jan until about mid Jan too. Try to just plan around what you can't change, don't get discouraged if you get delayed a little bit during this time of year. Especially if this is a permanent change for you.
Is there an activity you can enjoy while the rooms are closed? 10 days sounds excessive, I can understand you not wanting to skip that long. My gym is only totally closed 3 days a year, but I can't always make it so I have a few fallbacks when I don't want to skip a day. There are several times I will get there with the intention of doing one thing and get stuck doing something else if there's a random influx of people.0 -
Totally nervous about the holidays as well but I have surrounded myself with the support I need to make it thru. Feel free to add me for support and accountability. Ankdworak0

On days I either don't make it to the gym, or the gym is closed, I usually do some yoga at home. Or, I go on youtube, and you can find Zumba videos or pilates videos to follow along with. That way I still get some exercise in, and it focuses on strengthening those muscles0

wow, my gym closing? yea that'd be a bit stressful.. though I go to the Y and there's like 5 or so locations so they won't all close at once but.. Yea I can understand feeling a bit stressed OP
There's lots of awesome vids on youtube..... or dance while you clean the house.0 -
If it makes you feel any better, I'm 18 months in, have met my weight loss goal and I STILL feel nervous about backsliding. I don't obsess about it, but I DO use it as motivation to maintain my focus. As some of the earlier posters have said, it's important to have a couple of back-up activities you can fall back on when life gets in the way - it sounds like you're already well on the way.
Good luck!0 -
Why stress out? It took me a long time to get out of shape, I'm ok with it taking a long time to slim down, and if the road involves a couple of detours where I get to live life, enjoy great food, wine and the company of friends, then I'm going to enjoy the ride.
The reason people fail with weight loss is they're either too strict, or not strict enough. You need to have a little latitude if you want to succeed and, more importantly, sustain your improvements for the long term.0 -
It's good to shake things up and do another form of exercise to shock your body. Enjoy the break from your usual dance routine.0

This is about life and it's not a race. So you get tripped up a bit over the holidays. Big deal. Just don't do it every day and in the grand scheme of things you'll be fine. Every day is a new day.0

Nope , just get the burns in and try something different. Walk , swim, use fitnessblender, find something new. Im ccurious what the change in gyms will be come new year as have never seen i before. Wonder how rammed they are going to be with people doing NY resolutions?0

Youtube, Sworkit app, and Nike app all have excellent workouts you can do at home.0

Part of having a healthy relationship with food and your body it knowing that it's OK once in a while to pig out or over indulge. Just know that it's a rarity and enjoy it for what it is.0

You are the voice of reason Torontonius!
Live you life and try to be healthy while doing it! this is a journey and the holidays are going to come every year, along with a ton of other obstacles - you have to learn to face them and embrace them. Any changes you make that you can't sustain aren't changes in the first place.0 -
Yes me too! But I might have 3 days completely off for Christmas (24/5/6), and for the wider 2 weeks in the holiday period just accept that I won't keep up my usual calorie plan, and aim for maintenance rather than loss. I figure I'm more likely to achieve that, and will feel less demotivated this way.0

Thanks guys for all of your support. I'm trying to make sure I'm staying conscious of what I'm eating and getting in some form of exercise. I appreciate you guys supporting me and encouraging me. These are just my first obstacles. Starting to realize that it doesn't have to be all or nothing..that I'm going to spend most of my time somewhere in the middle.0

I usually struggle with that all-or-nothing thinking too, and I think it's why I've previously ended up gaining any weight loss back again!!
But that's where MFP has definitely helped me to move away from that thinking stay in the middle for the last 6 months. Good luck!!0 -

I think this time of year is incredibly difficult for anyone trying to lose/maintain a weight loss. It is a test. It really is a time to prove your dedication and focus. While those who want to lose weight LOVE it come new years, the ones already on the path tend to struggle if they don't keep their priorities straight/stay on track.
Keep in mind, you want to enjoy the holidays - you have to be strong enough to get back on the wagon ASAP. (that is not a week later, or a month later…I am saying the following morning)
In december/january - my workouts become top priority - bottom line. I also dedicate to come onto MFP every day and log (except xmas supper). Don't use xmas and the holidays as an excuse!0 -
I'm not nervous because I'm in control of my food (finally)! Just do your best and take it a meal at a time. Don't make it a big deal and don't set yourself up to fail0

I find myself trying to figure out why this holiday phase is so difficult for me because I generally don't 'celebrate' the holidays. I guess you can say I participate for my family's sake, but outside of that I really don't care. I think it's just the allure of all the holiday treats, in the store because they're everywhere, and at home.
But... I think I'm just excusing my resurfacing bad habits because "it's the holidays". Several times over the past week, I really didn't want that cake, pie, or cookies, but I ate it anyway because "it's the holidays".
It's like I'm unconsciously looking for an excuse to fail... I'm good at that, so I will try my best to push through this month... probably with lots of cardio.0 -

aww thank you0 -
I have felt nervous about temptations like Christmas. But I am doing enough activities now to at least maintain over the holidays. And even lose weight. The important thing is to find an alternative exercise as you suggested while your other gym is closed. I do hiking during the day and even night hiking with a head lamp with hiking groups i have joined from www.meetup.com. I also have an exercise bike and treadmill at home. There are many rec centres close by where I can take aquafit drop in classes. Exercise is now a priority and that comes before housework for sure. I will have some holidays treats but I will also exercise a lot. It's a lifestyle change.0
