Hi everyone, My name is Crystal and I just joined yesterday. I have never used a service like this before to track my diet/health so I hope it is as effective as I am anticipating. I would love to hear some success stories and see photos for inspiration, and hopefully find some useful tips on here.
Anyways, I am 25 years old, 5'10 and 228lbs. This is the heaviest I have ever been in my life. I separated from the military a year ago after losing my infant son in a roll over car crash and the depression/anxiety caused me to lose all motivation to eat right or work out. I want to finally get rid of this extra weight and get back to my pre-baby weight of 165. That may seem like a big number still but I am tall so it isn't too bad.
My downfalls: Sweets and Diet Coke...and exercise.
My Strengths: counting calories and water intake.
I just started dieting with a 1300 calorie limit and have been staying under that for about 4 days now and I haven't lost a pound. I want to know what I am doing wrong. I drink a lot of water and green tea, and I eat a diet that is low fat, very low sugar, and I eat as few carbs as I can. I cut out all soda and sweets 100 percent and I am so frustrated that nothing is coming off.
I also take Garcinia Cambogia, Xentrafen, and fiber every day as directed. I know that exercising would more than likely fix this, but it is kind of weird that my calorie intake has dramatically decreased and im seeing no change.
I just cant get myself motivated to work out. I know it is probably the depression/anxiety and grief taking over, but In the military I was always working out, so its very hard not knowing where that drive went.
I am hoping to meet people who can motivate me, and have effective advice and good attitudes to inspire me to be optimistic. I have a dog, a cat and me and I have no other children. You can visit my sons memorial page if you want to: www.facebook.com/jaxonalexanderkelley
Sorry this is so long! That is just a little about me, still figuring out my way around the site.
Good Luck everyone. PLEASE tell me someone how do I get motivated to work out? I am so Lazy, it is INSANE.
Crystal

Welcome to the site. Very sorry to hear about your son. It's good that you are trying to do something healthy for yourself.
What do you think of as working out? Maybe you need a different kind of exercise than what you have been used to, to get you motivated. If you have always worked out alone before, maybe you need group activities. Or maybe the opposite is true. You need to find a couple things that get you interested enough to get out there regularly, whether it's walking, hiking, pool exercise, rowing, etc. Explore what's available. Check out www.meetup.com for some hiking or cycling groups in your area.
I'm not a nutritionist but I have never limited myself to 1300 calories. I think your body may be trying to hold onto fat, thinking it's in starvation mode.0 -
Yeah, I am going to try really hard to overcome this lazy lifestyle. I don't work either because I am a disabled veteran, and im going to school 100% online so I don't do much at all. It is so sad. I hate it.
You think I need to up my calories? I used to go on 500 calorie a day diets and pounds flew off without exercise. Maybe now that im older its different.
I am going to start exercising, because I don't know what im thinking expecting a miracle, easy way out.0 -
If I read it correctly you said you have only been doing this for four days? If that is the case then you have not been giving it enough time. Keep to it and see where you are at in two weeks. Drink the diet soda if you want. It has zero calories. Just stay under your calorie limit and eat your protein fat and carbs however works for you. As far as exercise try going for a walk or do whatever kind you like. Or don't exercise at all until you have the diet part under control. Rome wasn't built in a day. Be patient. I hope you have success.0

I'm so sorry to hear about your son.
My downfalls: Sweets and Diet Coke...and exercise.
- diet soda is fine if you like it
- sweets you can have within your calorie limits
- exercise? You don't need to, it will probably help but start in the kitchen
-
My Strengths: counting calories and water intake.
- if you're good at this you've got MFP half-way beat
I just started dieting with a 1300 calorie limit and have been staying under that for about 4 days now and I haven't lost a pound.
- too short a time
- also I'd hazard a guess at too low calories - is that what MFP set? you're supposed to eat all of them, plus your exercise calories.
- What's your starting weight, height, age?
I want to know what I am doing wrong. I drink a lot of water and green tea, and I eat a diet that is low fat, very low sugar, and I eat as few carbs as I can. I cut out all soda and sweets 100 percent and I am so frustrated that nothing is coming off.
- up to you but I wouldn't go low fat, low sugar or low carb - I'd start to learn proper food choices and portion sizes to hit your calorie goals
I also take Garcinia Cambogia, Xentrafen, and fiber every day as directed.
- waste of money
I know that exercising would more than likely fix this, but it is kind of weird that my calorie intake has dramatically decreased and im seeing no change.
- it's been 4 days - weight loss isn't linear
I just cant get myself motivated to work out. I know it is probably the depression/anxiety and grief taking over, but In the military I was always working out, so its very hard not knowing where that drive went.
- it will come back, be kinder to yourself
I have a dog, a cat and me and I have no other children.
- take that dog for long romps - invest in a fitbit or similar - eat back the calories
good luck0 -
Thank you for the advice, I have now lost 9 pounds so far, I guess I was being too impatient lol0
