Harley Dude Intro

edited September 18 in Introduce Yourself
I've taken the time to respond to a couple of inputs from others and decided that it's only fair to post my own intro.

Before I retired from the service I used to run 3 - 10 miles a day and ate accordingly. When I retired they took my running away from me with several surgeries to fix the knees that had helped me meet the military standards for my annual PT. The fun runs didn't help any.

My kids once told me they didn't want me to become a "fat Harley dude" and one day this past September, after a deer totaled my bike but not me, I looked in the mirror and realized I was becoming what I promised I wouldn't.

I found this site by total accident but it seems to be what I needed to get back into reality from the eating style I had when I was at my running peak. I've managed to move steadly down the scale and anticipate a plateau at some point but so far I'm VERY pleased at what I'm learning from the rest of you and about myself.

Thanks for your inputs

Sorry to hear about the accident. But I hope you were able to replace the bike. I know riding can be such a great experience. (it is alot of sitting if you dont have the padding) Good luck and dont give it up completely. What do you ride?

    Nice to meet you. :drinker:
Wow.....those deer. We were up at Yosemite and on a curvy road with another couple on the Harley's, and we made a turn and out popped a deer right in front of us. I am so thankful that we were going so slow and were able to stop.
Glad you are OK. Good luck with your new lifestyle change.
Did you get a new hog yet???

Thanks to everyone for the "welcome aboard."

Believe me hitting a deer doing 55mph was not on my list of things to do in life and I'm so thankful I've spent a lot of time learning defensive driving skills and taking advanced courses.

I did get a replacement bike, an '08 FLHX Harley Street Glide, in a candy apple red thanks to my excellent insurance policy. I even managed to get 1000 break-in miles on it before they repaired my shoulder last week and looking forward to getting back on board before the winter season's completely over.
  • It is so amazing how this site just pops up when you need it most...I too found it by accident....Welcome and congrats on your work so far.....keep up the good work and pretty soon that fat harley dude will be a distant memory......:drinker:
