Runners that use MapMyRun and FitBit (cross-posted in FitBit users group)

So, when I started running I began using MapMyRun because it was a nice place to keep track of all of my gps-trackable outdoor runs as well as my indoor treadmill runs via manual entry. I like the fact that I can enter total time and total mileage and it grades my pace, etc. Now I have a FitBit One. When I get on the treadmill, what do I do to avoid double-counting while still keeping my run data in MapMyRun? If I manually enter the treadmill run into MMR, plus leave my FitBit on during the run, will I get double-credit calorie-wise? I am so confused!

Here's what I do and it seems to work. I keep my FitBit Flex on 24/7 (except for charging). I have it linked to MFP. When I run outside, I use MMR, which is also linked to MFP. I don't log treadmill runs but just trust FitBit for those. All of this magically links up in MFP.0

Thanks for the response. So you don't log treadmill runs in MapMyRun?0

Julie, Thanks for posting this, I have the same issue. Have you figured anything out on this yet? I like to keep my mileage in MMR but I think it is double counting the calories since I wear my Fitbit one during treadmill runs. Not sure if it double counts on outdoor runs.0

I’m a bit confused on this point aswell; I keep my Fitbit One with me 24/7 so whilst I use mapmyrun, Endemondo or Nike+ for power walking, I don’t link them up to anything (IE I use them as standalone apps) because surely I would be double counting if I recorded a walk in the app aswell as letting my One do it’s thing.0

What I do is delete my MapMyFitness run from MFP and ONLY from MFP. That way, I'm not double-counting calories, but still saving my workout and progress in MapMyFitness. I keep my Fitbit One with me just about 24/7 as well.0

If you have MapMyFitness connected to your Fitbit and to MyFitnessPal, then it will give you double the credit. You can have MapMyFitnes connected just to MyFitnesspal, and also then connect Fitbit to MyFitnessPal, you just can not connect MapMyFitness to both. When you do have just MapMyFitness connected to MyFitnessPal, it will then immediately award you credit for that exercise. However, your Fitbit credit will then adjust down based on that allowance.

MyFitnessPal If you have both programs connected only to MyFitnessPal then MyFitnessPal should adjust your calories awarded from Fitbit automatically to correlate with what you've already received from MapMyFitness, so you would not need to delete it.0 -

Connect MapMy to Fitbit and Fitbit to MFP. Leave your Fitbit on. No need to log any step-based activity. Log non-step exercise (like swimming or biking) either in Fitbit (that's what I do) or in MFP—never both.
