Migraine and logging

Hi All,
I suffer from horrible migraines. At their worst like yesterday the slightest movement makes me vomit, I know gross. I had breakfast, granola snack and that was it before getting sick 8 times. I'm thinking when I get sick like that logging my food kinda moot. Advice?

Yes, definitely log your food. If not the day of the migraine, log the day after. This way after a while you'll be able to find out if you have any food triggers. I get migraines with aura a few times a year, very few and far between. But with logging, I have found that raisins, peanuts, peanut butter and artificial sweeteners in the morning can set on off for me.0

I think that she was more worried about logging the calories when she was just vomiting most of them back up.
As everyone else mentioned, still log your food to see if you can identify any triggers. As for the fact that you are losing a number of calories through vomiting--I would just keep track of that in the notes section--it's impossible to calculate how many calories you may have lost in the toilet.0 -

Agree completely. And migraines suck. It might help some to check out your food diary the days before like people are saying and see if you have some food triggers, that are exacerbating the situation, but could be stress, hormones, etc. Hope you get rid of them soon!0 -
When I've thrown up, I logged the calories but made sure I mentioned how much I thought I kept down in the notes section. My general MO is to overestimate when in doubt.0

Yeah, I agree that it is moot, unless you want to go to the trouble of weighing what you don't keep down.0

Ewwwww That's disturbing. I knew a girl when i was younger that always had baggies with her so she could monitor all of her output. From above and below. ED for sure.
When i get a real migraine i can't keep anything down. Not even a sip of water or a pill, the second it goes down it comes right back. I wondered too what others do for logging. I am really hoping that i can find some sort of trend. The only thing i noticed is that i don't get any bad migraines (the ones with auras and vision problems) when i am overweight. At worst i get the headaches that don't go away for a week but i can still push through them.0 -
I used to get bad migraines, and still do suffer chronic migraines, but they're under control now thanks to botox and nerve block injections with back up rescue medication on hand. If I were to get a bad one, I'd still log the calories, figuring that it would probably all balance out in the end.
If you get migraines regularly, as has been already stated, make a note and log. It really might help you spot some triggers to help you avoid them. Good luck to you.0 -
Good ideas. Migraines suck and sometimes they linger and get strong again. I have heard of boots for migraines and I've had block injections, it didn't help me much. I'm getting the aura back so I am left with take the med just in case and it knocks me out or wait and see and then take the med later and risk it not staying in my system long enough to work. Sorry I'm complaining, just feel miserable.0

I get migraines, now controlled on tablets. I still logged my food even though I keep nothing down, I didn`t ever find a trigger, but some people do.0

Oh yes and something that worked for me when I was sick, not all the time was making cola flat and drinking it. Don`t know why but was advised to do it by doc and 8/10 times worked, I still didn`t keep food down but kept some fluids in me.0

Log what you can and use the little note section to record that you had a migraine that day for future reference.
My heart goes out to you. I've only had one migraine in my life and it was the worst week of my life.0 -
Talk to the doctor about the vomiting. They have pills for that.0

I was given pills for that... the problem is you have to be able to keep the pill down for it to work.
I used to get revolting, debilitating migraines, but even though I couldn't find a pattern with my hormones (I always thought they were triggered by stress) once I got pregnant I stopped getting them! Now I'm on the depo shot so I'm not ovulating or getting a period and still no migraines and I never ever want to stop taking it because I'm terrified the migraines will come back
Funny how they can be triggered by so many things for different people.

I don't think there is a point in logging calories that you've puked up. But I do agree that logging what you ate could help to see if something you're eating or drinking is a trigger.
If you have abortive migraine pills, ask your doctor if they come in a melt instead of a pill. (if you haven't already) Several of the triptans come in melt form so you don't throw the pill up.0
