One problem with MFP is that it doesn't distinguish between good sugar from fruit and processed sugar from junk. If you know your sugar is coming from good sources, I would disregard it. If you are eating over your limit in all processed sugar, that would be a problem.

I don't know as much about protein, but if you are over on protein, but not on cholesterol, that seems fine to me. Especially if you are working out.

I am only concerned with my calories & fat. Protein is okay to go over. It won't do anything really and if you're getting your sugars from fruits, that's all natural sugars which has a very different effect. Don't worry about that, make sure you get those calories in.

I don't pay attenton to the sugar because it's all from fresh fruit. Honestly, I don't pay much attention to any of it other than the calories. As long as you're eating healthy, exercising and losing weight I wouldn't worry about it.
  • You also kind of have to watch the fats too when it comes to good fat and bad fats, kind of like with the sugar. I say stay within your calories and you might have to adjust to what works for you. If you start not losing weight try tweeking some of your daily alotments, but tweek something and try it for two weeks or better to allow your body for adjustment. Some people tend to not see immediate results, freak and go changing everything without thinking you have to get use to some of the changes. I just had a group at my job and a lady was a digestive specialist and she told me adding a bit of protein to every meal will help you shed the weight because your body works harder to break it down. She said simply if it walks on 4 legs, falls from a tree or grows from the ground you should eat it. This site is a guide once you get use to simply eating right, then you make it your own.

I agree! If I go over on sugar because I ate a cup of strawberries or had some other fruit, I don't worry about it. But if it were due to other foods I ate...cereal, yogurt, packaged foods, etc... I would cut them out or portion them down. I am always over on protein, but my cholesterol is extremely low so I don't worry about that. Just look at all the nutritional info on the labels and make wise choices. This is a life style change, not a diet. Diets don't work.

I guess it depends on what/where your problems/concerns are...As prev. stated good sugar is ok to be over some, and should get 30% of cals from protein if exercising/working out. You can change what you monitor..I watch cholesterol and sodium... Sodium for females can be an issue of water weight and needs to be monitored along with getting adequate water intake. Good luck on your journey. :-)
