I am *not* pregnant and not expecting to be in the near future, but at some point I will :) and this is just stuff I wonder about. I have been really serious this year about my fitness and I'm at the best I've ever felt and looked. I put A LOT of effort to lose weight and become stronger and fitter. I hope this doesn't sound shallow, but I'm really worried about losing everything when getting pregnant and not being able to get back. I had to fight every single pound and that took a lot of time. So moms, what are tips to minimize the baby weight or at least recover from it quickly and get back in shape?

I am currently pregnant. I'll be 34 weeks on Sunday. I've gained 18.8 lbs. I log everyday and I exercise (water aerobics) 3x a week. I in no way restrict anything I eat. I'm not trying to be in a deficit or anything like that either. Some days are higher calorie than others, but just being conscious of what I eat and logging it has helped me greatly. I gained 45 lbs in my first pregnancy 6 years ago. So yeah, my gains this time are a far cry from last time.

First off, restricting calories while pregnant is not a good idea. If you are at a normal BMI, docs will tell you to gain between 25 to 35 pounds. I'm almost 35 weeks pregnant and I'm at a 20lb gain. I should be at the 25lb mark by the time I have this baby. It's where I wanted to be.

Things I've done to make sure I'm gaining the right amount of weight:
    1. Exercise
    2. Tracking calories and macros
    3. Drinking lot's of water
    4. Listening to my body

My plan for losing the baby weight is the same. I plan on keeping my calories to maintenance, exercising and either nursing or exclusively pumping. I think that will allow me to lose any excess weight quickly enough.

I was so worried about not being able to lose the baby weight when I got pregnant. I thought I was at the peak of my fitness back then. It took time.. but it came off and I think I look even better now than I did before. Now I am a little worried about #2 (when the time comes) but I am sure I will be fine, the little ones are so worth it! Honestly, I kept active during pregnancy but enjoyed my food of course, I gained about 42lbs or so. Then after I gave birth, I took it slow, lots of walking... once I was OK'd by the doc, I started working out again and incorporated heavy lifting into my routine which imo was the best thing I ever did for my fitness and body.

My second baby is now 8 months old and I've never been thinner in my life (20 lbs less than pre-pregnancy weight)...eat normally when you are pregnant (they say you only need 300 cals more) and try to enjoy the very special time in a woman's life. I started using myfitnesspal around 5 months after birth. Breastfeeding helps a lot also...I eat 2300 cals a day (i'm 5'9'') and i've been losing 2 lbs a week for 3 months...

So, no, don't worry, keep your healthy habits and it should be fine

Eat a reasonable amount and stay active. I only gained about 20 pounds
