Benefits of eating Grapefruit for Insulin resistance sufferers

I have slight insulin resistance, ever since I got that diagnosis I have avoid fruit like the plague due to natural sugars. I don't want to spike my blood sugar and I have been seeing that grapefruit is actually beneficial for people who have IR or diabetes. Can anyone shed some light on their personal experience with it? Whether you have IR/diabetes or not. Is grapefruit good for weight loss and keeping your sugar levels low?

Why do you avoid fruit? I'm IR and the only thing my doctor want me to monitor is my carb intake (I try to stay around 150g a day). I've never heard that you should stay away from fruit with a metabolic disorder. Maybe I've missed something in all my research.

Yea I just avoid sugar and limit my intake of carbs also. I'd rather just be on the safe side and not take in any extra sugars. Maybe sugars okay in moderation but I don't really need it.

Grapefruit would be horrible to be honest, way too much sugar. You need to keep your blood sugar and insulin levels stable in order to prevent extra insulin from releasing into your system. I would urge you to look into a ketogenic lifestyle, low carb high fat. I am seriously insulin resistant and have PCOS and have lost nearly 100lbs this year living a ketogenic lifestyle.

Just throwing this out there. Grapefruit interacts badly with a number of common medications. I'm not saying grapefruit is bad or anything. Just that people should be aware of this.

No, I don't take any meds for IR. I also happen to have hypothyroidism, so I do take meds for that.

In my experience, you don't need to cut out fruits. I still eat fruit and have a moderate carb intake. I just hit 60 pounds lost this AM. Fruit is good for you (and it's part of a recommended insulin resistance diet). What you should be concerned with are the carbs that raise your blood sugar quickly - most fruits don't do that (apples, bananas, grapes, plumbs, etc).

I recommend you read up on IR, and talk to your doctor before eliminating an entire food group from your diet.

I've been losing weight with out it, just wanted to try and add a few back into my diet. Thanks for your recommendations and help though.

I really had to cut fruit out to lose weight at this point in life and may want to add a few back at some point. At some point in the last 40 years I remember doing a 'grapefruit' diet plan. :)
