Hey everyone, I was just wondering will my flabby arms go away after I lose 60 pounds? I started at 184 and I'm 154 now. my arms are smaller but still flabby, will that go away at a certain point?

    Yes and no.

    You'll get smaller overall. You can't choose where, though; your body will decide on its own where to drop the weight. And if you lose a significant amount of weight, like 60 pounds, you may find some loose skin where all that fat used to be.

    The rest depends on exercise. You can do strength training to tone your arms as well as the rest of you, which should help reduce the flab, as you put it.

    before I gained I didn't have them does that mean anything?

    Probably not.

    I mean, your shape before weight gain can give you some idea of where your body tends to carry the extra pounds. But the truth is, we never go back, only forwards.

    You can get back into the shape you want. You just need to be willing to work at it. Check out the fitness and exercise forum for some good suggestions.

  • Also, depending on your body type, your arms might just always look flabby when at rest. I've been rock climbing for a year and a half now, and when I flex my arms they look great!! ... and as soon as I drop the flex, they look flabby. I've got a pretty endomorphic body type, and it's REALLY hard to look remotely cut without going to extremes of diet and exercise. Sorry I can't be more optimistic :/

    Something that might also affect it is the amount of resistance/strength training that you do, like segacs said. If you're losing weight by dieting alone, you'll lose both fat and muscle weight. If you're dieting and only doing cardio, you'll probably retain good muscle in your lower body, but risk losing it in your arms, chest, shoulders, and back. If you aren't doing it already, I'd suggest adding bicep and tricep curls (always work both sides of a muscle group equally) with low weight but a high number of repetitions and sets to encourage a bit more definition in your arms without worrying about significant increases in size/mass.

    The only thing it means is you added fat to your arms. Fat tends to be jiggly like jello. Muscle is firm.

    So while you can't spot reduce fat, strength training will most likely help the end result.

    I started 76lbs heavier than your start weight. Right now, I'm about 8 or 9lbs heavier than your current weight. My arms are a little jiggly, but they are firmer than they were 20lbs ago and amazing compared to 90lbs ago. I'm pretty sure, most of my jiggle is mostly fat (maybe a bit of skin, but I won't know that till I'm done).

    My arm flab has lessened with heavy weight lifting.
