What to log work as?

I normally have things set on "lightly active", even when working from home, because I've been living in a huge house and had to move around most of the day. I've moved and now working from home means sitting still, really, so I've had it set to "sedentary", which seems to be accurate as my weight stayed the same, as expected.

I have a new job outside of home as well and it isn't every day, so I don't want to up my activity level in my profile. I'm not quite sure what to log it as, though, because this site doesn't have all the options of the one I used to used. I'm working in a shop, but I'm on the product team so some of the time I'll be dealing with deliveries and tidying the shop and so on. It'll be on my feet the whole time. Any suggestions?

    even the sedentary settings on MFP allow for some natural movement
  • The sedentary setting is maintenance for me at the moment, though. If I do upwards of 4 hours of lifting and rushing around on some days and don't account for them, I'll lose weight. The alternative would have been to go back to "lightly active" but I don't work every day, so I'd rather do it this way.

    if you are maintaining on sedentary cals, why would you increase them?
  • Because I'm about to go from sitting all day to doing a fairly active job? I've got to eat back those calories somehow or I'll lose weight, but to do that I need an idea of how many I'm burning.

    You don't log work, its part of your daily activity level. Change from sedentary to active.

    i just presumed, seeing as you posted on the 'general diet and WEIGHT LOSS' forum, that you wanted to lose weight...

    start with an extra 200 cals on work days, if you're still losing, increase it by another 100 cals till you maintain.

    I just wasn't quite sure where to put it and I thought this was a good start.

    I'll start with 200 and see how it goes. I'm scared of losing anything unplanned, I'm already at the edge of how light I can reasonably be (long story, food issues where I worked over the summer), but I also don't want to gain because even the slightest difference throws my balance and I do a dangerous sport.

    Who knew doing a "normal" job again would be so stressful? If it wasn't Christmas, the time when no one really wants my freelance stuff, I'd have stuck with that!

    Edit: just noticed, and wanted to say in case anyone looks - I have no idea why my ticker says "8lbs to go". All the settings in my profile are correct. I wouldn't be in good health 8lbs lighter than this!

    Notice your a professional dancer and you have weight and food issues. It would probably be a good idea to provide this information in the beginning of the thread.
  • Weight and food issues? By food issues, I literally meant they weren't feeding us enough to teach dance all day, you make it sound quite sinister! I'm also not really dancing at the moment so I didn't think it was relevant.

    I wouldn't worry about trying to track the calories burned so closely. It is only an estimate and no one burns the exact same number of calories every day, even if they do the exact same tasks. Just weigh ever week or so. If you lose a pound or two, eat more the next week. If you gain a pound or two, eat less the next week.
