Vitamin problems.

I've been taking Iron for years now because I am anemic and started taking a multivitamin as well when I started exercising. I added some vitamin D to the picture shortly after. Now, all of a sudden a couple months ago if I take any of them I get nauseous and throw up. I have no idea why. I've tried taking them with food, without food, with water, with other drinks, in the morning, at bed time, and nothing helps. Anybody got any idea?

I take my vitamins separately. In the am I take my muti-vitamin with food that has lots of protein/fat taht can help absorb and buffer the vitamin. Then I take my glucosamine and vit b12 in the afternoon.

Try also eating 30minutes BEFORE you take your vitamin. Your stomach just needs to have enough food in it to buffer the vitamins

    Hope this help.

Vitamins make me sick too in tablet form. I have to take chewables like a little kid. :-/ I am especially sensitive to regular vitamins during pregnancy...

Are you taking them all at once? I take a few different vitamins as well, but at different times of the day. Some with breakest, lunch or dinner.

For that reason, I try to remember to buy a liquid multivitamin or any other vitamins that come in liquid form. You can add them to a protein shake if you want. Cal-Mag-Zinc sometimes comes in Pina colada liquid. Iron probably doesn't. . so you're out of luck with that but if you try to make other vitamins liquid maybe that will help you. I also try to take vitamins right after I eat my heavier foods. Some vitamins are fat-soluble, which means they are better absorbed with fat so it's good to eat with an avocado or some other fat.

I have also heard (but have no proof) that liquid vitamins sometimes are better absorbed? I read something once that said if you put a vitamin in water and it doesn't break down for a really long time it might not be all that absorb-able. . . although you'd think stomach acids would get through. . I don't know!
  • You could also ask a pharmacist if they know about any side effects like nausea from taking both.

In lots of the food we eat, we get a sufficient amount of what we need all ready. You may be giving yourself too much of a certain vitamin I would go to the Dr. and have some blood drawn to see if certain levels are too high!

Iron and Vitamin D should not be taken close together. It should be on your bottle of iron if its a prescription. I use to take prescription iron pills.
