Do you eat differently depending on your company?

Do the people you eat with affect what you eat, how much you eat and how you eat? Just curious...

Yes. When we visit home we eat out a lot because of certain people. =( Which is frustrating because I'll do so goos with logging and losing weight and then kill it with a trip home.0

At work I eat my healthy snacks in correct portions with coworkers. When I visit home, I eat mostly healthy stuff but overeat with my mom. And we bake! And alone is the worst (well, used to be the worst but it's much better now) because when no one can see me, I go crazy and eat everything!0 -
Whenever I know I'm going to grandma's, I save 500 extra calories (skip breakfast and allow my snack to be 1000 calories) because I know she'll want to eat cookies or some other delicious stuff with me.0

I do. When I'm by myself I'm fine and usually eat less than calorie requirements. About once or twice a week I'm out with friends for a night and I eat and drink what I would like.0

Took a month for everyone to realize I am serious about this. I now get ice tea when I run out of calories and hanging out with friends at a bar. Yup, they serve ice teas at bars.0

Yes. I can only eat in front of people I feel comfortable with. And if I am eating with other people then I eat as quickly as I can so no one can watch me do it. I have a lot of times where I eat before I go places because the restaurants I have to go are not ones that have foods I will even touch...most are foods I can't even be near without panicking due to my eating disorder I've had since I was 2.0

No, because I choose what I'm eating and I don't let others decide that for me. Plus I'm usually worse when left home alone to bake0

I think so, at least I used to. I haven't had a real sit down meal with my childhood best friends since I started losing weight. But before, I was the biggest of my friends, and I always made it a point to not order the biggest meal in the group and/or leave some food on my plate so I didn't look like a pig. It sounds so awful now, but even though I love my friends, most of them are athletes who burn insane amounts daily, therefore being able to eat insane amounts daily and not gain. I never did the burning part, just the eating part, which is what led me here.0

yes - when my son comes home from school, I tend to stock up on treats for him, which I inevitably eat. He is also a fantastic cook and always prepares one or two meals that are calorie rich. I try to prepare for his visits in the week leading up to it with extra exercise and saving some calories in the bank. Sometimes, it works - sometimes it doesn't.0

Sort of? I try to make good choices and eat under my calorie allotment. However, if I'm eating out, or someone else is cooking, it can be difficult. Generally, there are a set of people who understand exactly how serious I am about this and who have been great, and all those people, I eat the same way with. Then there are others who don't really grasp it or don't care, and around them, I just try to do my best, and honestly, I try to limit the number of times I'm seeing them in a way that involves food.0

Yes! I love going out for lunch with coworkers. It's nice to leave the office and there are so many good and unique food choices by my work. Last week I brought lunch every day...and this week I am eating all of last week's lean cuisines since everyday a coworker asked me to go out for lunch. I had indian buffet (always 1000+ calories and no dinner that night), zoup (that was pretty healthy), bibimbap at the korean place...so good.
We just moved recently, and I swear that the only restaurants near us are italian. I like Italian, but it gets boring. Plus my husband is lactose intolerant which rules out a lot of northern italian dishes.
I guess it is better to eat out for lunch than for dinner. I usually eat less at lunch. However, when I eat out that much in a week, I lose nothing. Too much salt I can't control and I always eat more than I would at home.0 -

Not really. I tend to eat the same no matter who I'm with. I was on vacation though and ate whatever I wanted the whole week. That's pretty much the only time I stray from my norm.
At my old job several years ago, the first time we all ordered out as an office it was from a sub place. I worked with all women (10 of us in all.) I noticed right away that the 9 other women in the office all ordered footlong subs and ate them all. That was the first time I'd ever been in a group of women that didn't get the 6" subs. I'm not sure why it stuck out to me but it did and it did tend to make me think "what the heck, I might as well get the big sub too."0 -
Yes, when out of town, I ate a lot and none of it was good. If I go out to eat, often eating differently.

ohhhhh yes! when i go home and see my friends from my hometown, we we always go out to try all kinds of different ethnic cuisines and i'm such a foodie, i don't say no. it's easier to be good at some restaurants (usually the asian restaurants) than others. and of course it's usually happy hour or BYOB on top of that... but hey, we have a good time.
my mom is a different story: she's conscious of what she eats 98% of the time and exercises and is in very good shape and health for her age. she's definitely a better influence on me health-wise; i sometimes feel like a glutton around her lol.0 -

I eat way more regular meals when I'm with other ppl. Left on my own I usually graze throughout the day with maybe one or two full meals. I still hit my macros pretty much every day and its just more enjoyable for me0

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by eating "differently". By and large, my diet is is highly nutritious...but if I feel like going out and having pizza with the guys, I'm going to go out and have pizza with the guys. If we're out for lunch at my favorite spot then I'm likely to get the asian ahi tuna salad...but if I feel like it, I'll get the fish 'n chips.
I guess I tend to look at my diet as a whole and don't get too wrapped up in the minutia of meal to meal. I tend to be a big picture guy.

People generally do not affect how I eat but situations do. For example, if I'm alone, I don't eat as well. I eat great at work. When visiting family, I usally eat more because of all the goodies.0
