Has anyone found anything that helps pmt? (sorry guys)

I've tried evening primrose oil, B vitamins, I do have a lot of dairy so one month I swapped to fortified soya but my PMT was worse than ever that month, I have even started on fluoxetine in the luteal phase of the my cycle, but still my PMT is horrific (I am seeing a doctor for help btw).
My binge eating gets out of control, I can look at the calendar on a day that I have consumed more than 6000 kcal by 12pm and see I am a few days from having my period. I know people joke about it, or say just get a grip.. but the lethargy, insatiable hunger (I would eat anything I can see, it's absolutely out of control near my period) and moodiness.
Is there anything at all I can do, maybe during the rest of the month that could improve the pmt?
Thank you in advance

I go Atkins/Low Carb etc...a few days before PMT begins and try to stay that way over the duration. Not allowing carbs does make a difference (start before or you won't likely have the fortitude to say no). It's much harder to eat yourself into a frenzy on a block of cheese than a bag of cookies or potato chips. Exercise helps a bit with the cravings too, if you can find the motivation to do it.
Some months, I just try to do damage control knowing I cannot fight hard enough to keep on it.0 -
I also have that problem. My doctors diagnosed it "PMDD" (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) Not only do I binge but I turn into Jekyl and Hyde and it is disturbing for everyone. Mostly it's depression though I dont suffer but during the week before.
They put me on Fluoxetine but it didn't do well with me.
What made a bigger difference was taking 2000 omega 3 fish oil and 5,000 iu of vitamin D.
It took about 3 months but my PMDD is not as severe, which I contribute to the D.0 -
Yeah it's really bad here too. But I've found that what seems to help so far is going low carb on those days... basically I'll have a low carb wrap with deli meat and cheese for breakfast (or just eggs and bacon or whatever), some soup, meat and veggies at lunch, and meat and veggies for dinner... Plain Greek yogurt with nut butter as a snack... If I get very hungry, 200g of baby carrots... Basically avoid most carbs as they are the worst trigger on those days and eat a LOT of veggies (seriously, I've had close to 2 pounds of veggies some days).
Well, at least it's the plan this month. Last month I had some carbs and it just went downhill from there.0 -
A total hysterectomy did the trick for me. But I can sympathize. Between the p.m.s., weight gain, crankiness and two week long periods, I was one miserable person.
Hope you find something that works!0 -

Oh I am sorry you had to have a hysterectomy. Hopefully you are well now though :-)0 -

Ah you see another post abut low carb. i was thinking of you today when I had soup for lunch 2 lb pounds of vegetables sounds better than two pounds of cereal/bread/cakes! You see I find that one bet tips me over the edge too. I hope it's better for you this month. Thank you for posting x0 -

It's great you found that the vit d or fish oil may be helping. I tried reasonably high dose of vitamin d and calcium (I was deficient when I was tested some two years ago) but it made no difference to my pmt unfortunately. I do eat oily fish quite regularly but I guess 2000g is quite a lot...(?!) I will start supplementing :-)0 -

You are absolutely right, I did devour a block of brie once though but it wasn't that mad frenzy like it is with the carbs. It's interesting that you say you start before the pmt sets in.. that makes sense, I am not sure I could say no during pmt! Do you go very low carb, or just low carb (I guess it's relative, but do you still have fruit /veg/ milk etc?)
Thanks x0
