My Morning Meal

Hi all! So I always eat breakfast—and I mean always. I never skip it for a few reasons. First, because its my favorite meal of the day. Secondly because if I don’t eat, I’m starving come lunch time and I just eat whatever I can get my hands on. And thirdly, because I don’t drink much coffee or many caffeinated beverages, so I need that energy! But this morning, I’m finding that I’m really not hungry. I’m almost nauseous. I think I’m sick because my throat is really hurting too. However, I have a final exam today! Would you still eat breakfast even if you aren’t hungry?

I really do find that is important for a healthy, successful for the rest of the day and I don’t want to mess up on my exam later because I am hungry and unfocused or have done something out of the ordinary, but at the same time, I don’t want to make myself feel more sick, because then I wouldn’t do well on my exam either.

Any suggestions?

Toast with peanut butter? Just something light that is easy on your tummy. Good luck on your exam!

With a sore throat? How about some ice cream, or a smoothie? Something different. Even a slice of left over pizza. Something appealing. Or choke down a handful of nuts or peanut butter and call it good.

I generally don't force myself to eat if I don't feel hungry, but I do keep a protein bar on me all the time, so I have back up.

Maybe just something lighter, and eat it slowly so you can gauge the situation. I always ate breakfast when I had an exam even though I normally don't. Start with just an apple maybe. Perhaps avoid dairy.

    No, for the nausea.

I think the smoothie suggestion is a good one. I am usually rushing and not that hungry so I grab some peanuts on the way out. I eat two breakfasts so my 2nd breakfast is more balanced (carbs, fat and protein) like oatmeal and cottage cheese or egg white sandwich with cheese and low fat bread. Eating smaller meals helps me not be too full or too hungry. I stay at the same level throughout the day, neither hungry or full and have enough energy to do what I need to do (work, workout, etc.).

Pack something but don't eat it until you feel better or until you feel hungry again. Meanwhile, have something easy to digest and light on the stomach like a small piece of fruit.
