scared of tonight

I'm hoping you all can help me through this....
My boss invited me out to dinner tonight as a thank you for the extra work I've done in the last weeks picking up slack with other people out and taking on jobs that aren't in my wheelhouse at all. It's a very nice gesture and I accepted but now I am terrified of eating out. I haven't eaten out yet since starting MFP (just 2 weeks ago) and don't know where we are going or what I should have when I get there. I want to be able to eat out every once in a while but make healthy choices. Any advice? I want to enjoy tonight, not dread it!

Grilled Chicken or fish and steamed veggies are always my choice and I usually only eat half of it. Most servings are actually 2-3 servings.0

It might show what will power and dedication you have ordering healthier from the menu. If you can't, remember portion sizes are exaggerated in restaurants, so take some home with you. Dressings on the side and grilled protein won't be that bad. You'll do fine. I freaked out the first time we had a huge family gathering at a small town fish fry a few weeks ago, too.0

Personally, I think you should just enjoy myself and call it a treat, sounds like you deserve it!:flowerforyou:0

Salads are always a good choice and most places have them.0

This.
Or find out where you're eating and plan ahead of time.
As said above, grilled chicken or fish would be good choices. Salads can be good, just avoid going overboard on dressing (get it on the side.)
Save a few extra cals for dinner tonite just in case.0 -
If you know the restaurant that you are going to ahead of time, you may be able to look up the menu online and decide what you want well in advance. Then you can plan the rest of your meals around what you are going to eat and you can look up nutritional information as well.
But if you can't, don't sweat it. You deserve to have something out. I go out to eat a lot, I just plan what I am going to eat for the day and then if I go over, I make up for it with exercise and water the next day. I have faith in you my dear!0 -

Maybe suggest a place that you would like to go to? I didn't see this before or I would have stated this lol. Sorry0 -
What a nice boss...
What would you be having a home? Go for something similar. Simple right! the first couple of times I went out I skimmed the menu really quickly and ruled out my old favourites then narrowed it down trying to remember the basics i.e. grilled fish/chicken/maybe even a steak, no sauces or on the side, with salad/veggies, again sauces/dressing on the side. The kitchen are there to prepare what you want so dont be afraid to make demands. Now its being second nature.
If you get a large portion immediately ask for a side plate, remove the excess and ask the waitress to take it away - it sounds like a waste and believe me the first time I felt like a weirdo but if its there I'll eat it. Now I've trained myself that if its not on my plate I will eat it - see making progress! so I have can have chips on the table & I wont devour them.
Good luck & enjoy the treat.0 -
Thanks everyone! I guess I just don't want to gain back the 2 pounds I've lost. I know, it doesn't sound like much, but those are the first two pounds I've lost on my own. No fad diets. No delivered meals that taste like cardboard. No starving myself. Just me doing the right thing. Seeing how much you've all lost is amazing!0

This is a lifestyle change, but its not going to work if you completely restrict yourself, and dont allow yourself a treat once in a while.
Personally, I normally go for a healthy option when going out, but if theres something less healthy I want, then I'll go for it. I will probably do extra exercise that day, or the day before/after if I cant manage.
I am eating 1290 calories plus my exercise calories, but I dont consider myself on a diet. I eat what I want, but just in moderation, and am eating healthier, but actually enjoying it0 -
and please don't forget that if you want your food a certain way - salad dressing on the side, no butter on your veggies - be sure to ask the wait staff for it. you should get what you want, fixed the way you want it.
enjoy!!!0 -
