So what do you get when you go out for Mexican food? Trying to get some healthy options to replace my usual. Thanks!

i think the fajita option is probably the heathiest, if you only eat the sauted meat and vegetables (leave out the sour cream, guac, cheese and wraps).

I get a chicken soft taco with extra salsa/veggies and no cheese ... aka fajitas. Example: Taco Bell Fresca Style Chicken Tacos - 2 are 300 calories. A good mexican restaurant should have an equivalent version.

Crunchy tacos! Depending on where you go, they usually have between 150-180 calories apiece. I can eat three of them with some unsweetened ice tea and feel pretty full and satisfied.

I like to get taco salad without sour cream. Dont eat much of the shell. If any at all. Usually enough to fill me up. Good luck

DO NOT eat the chips! Ask them to take them off the table! And drink water with your meal! ONLY water! Veggie or chicken fajitas are awesome! I dab the extra oil off and I dont eat the tortillas either!

I found the least calories is to have a cheese enchilada, then I eat 1/2 the rice and Beans. I guess it all depends on the person! Good Luck!

I'm the same way.....I cave every time.....good thing we don't really have any GREAT Mexican restaurants in my area.....they are just average....Now, if I still lived in alabama....I would be in trouble....I practically lived at my favorite Mexican restaurant over there....

I had Mexican the other day, and had tortilla soup. And a reasonable serving of chips and salsa. The bowl of soup was huge: I only ate half and I was full. (I had the cheese on the soup, but could have skipped that to save more calories.)

I have had trouble finding healthy things in Mexican restaurants. At one restaurant I found an item that was sooo good...and I would imagine pretty healthy. It was a whole pineapple cut in half..then chicken, shrimp, and steak was grilled with vegetables and stuffed inside this pineapple with the fresh pineapple juice. It normally comes with cheese, so I just skipped the cheese. Also, if you wanted it to be even healthier you could order just chicken or shrimp and skip the beef. I don't know if any of your local Mexican restaurants offer this..but if you can find it, it is awesome!!!

When eating Mexican I usually don't go for the healthy option. I always get a chicken quesadilla and cheese dip. The only difference now is that I only get 1 quesadilla instead of the 2 that I used to.

If you're at an authentic mexican resteraunt, get the sopa de pollo! (chicken soup) full of veggies, chicken and broth. I would question the sodium content, but its mid-blowingly good, and you wont feel heavy after eating. (and usually they give you enough for leftovers!

I usually sub the beans and rice they give with almost every dish with a salad.

me too...if I 'm going to go to Mexican, then it's just going to be a "cheat day".....chips, salsa, chimichangas, YUM. that's why we hardly ever go anymore, just every once in awhile! =)

Fajitas asked them to not put any rice or refried beans on your plate instead ask for extra veggies and possibly a bean soup.

I do fajitas ask for no or limited oil. I don't eat the tortillas - but do take full advantage of the guac and spurge with the sour cream depending on how my calories look for the day.

I LOVE mexican food. I could eat it everyday for every meal.. Hey! Maybe that's how I got to where I am! LOL :) We went last week and I got the following for under 600 calories. I would NOT have done it for lunch, only dinner because it's my biggest meal of the day and I made sure I had the calories to use before getting there, but I was satisfied and I didn't feel like I deprived myself of my favorite food while watching everyone around me eat it. Hope this helps. :)

Fajita Taco Salad, no meat, extra veggies and lettuce.
    No questo cheese in salad
Sour cream and shredded cheese on the side.
Kept the guac. and tomato and used the Sour Cream and cheese very sparingly
    5 tortilla chips with slasa
and only a couple of bites of the taco shell.
I added an extra 100 calories or so b/c I did steal a bite of my hubby's dinner. ;)

**Side note: If someone thinks my totals are way off please speak up. We go out for Mexcian a lot and I don't want to continue to eat it if it's wrong.*****

I do the same healthy thing I used to do for weight watchers...and its worked thus so far. I get 2 soft pollo asado tacos with extra letttuce and chese on the side with a half serving of beans. Beans for the protein and fiber and tacos...well to eat. And I try to stay away from the chips n'salsa....which is my favorite!!! If all else fails...and I lose my control with the chips n'salsa-then I make sure I head to the gym during the week or buckle down strict....its ruff to be mexican and love mexican food and wanna be a healthy weight! :ohwell:

I don't know how many healthy Mexican dishes there are but I'm guessing not too many. This is probably no help to you but when I go to a Mexican resturant i go to eat the best food in the world and have the best margaritas ever! I just make sure I save like a 1,000 calories for that meal. Probably doesn't help but mexican is my favorite and I'm not looking for low cal food there!

MEXICAN food IS my weakness. When I go I will get the steak burrito (huge) filled with green peppers and onions. they put the queso cheese on top and I will eat the whole thing plus share a basket of chips and salsa. I always work out hard for the entire week though making sure my calories are under every single day...AND it works.
