How much calories did you set your daily goals and how long did it take you to reach your goal weight?

I am 5'1 and had my calorie deficit at 1200. My initial weight loss about 5 years ago was from 128-30 to 105. It took me close to a year, but I purposely had my loss set low because of my low caloric need.
    Cheers, h.

I was set on 1200-1400 cal to lose about 0.5-1 kg a month. I am now going through a strssful period and eating a lot more, but I will go back to it. I have a fitbit. My burn on "nothing days" is as low as 1100 cal, on work days 1500, closer to 2000 on gym days. I struggle to stay on low calories as I tend to get hungry and have at least a couple of snacks in the afternoon. I am 5'2 and 112lb nwhen I last checked a couple of weeks ago, probably a it more now.

I'm 5'2. In the beginning I set my calories at 1300. After I lost the first 100 lbs I changed my goals a little and added lifting to my running schedule. I eat around 1500-1700 now.

I'm 5'1.3 I started out eating 1440 calories, which was slowly lowered as I lost weight until I hit 1200. I exercise quite a bit. When it wasn't snowing, I biked a lot, so was probably exercising 12-15 hours a week. I would eat back some exercise calories, but not all. I lost ~83 lbs in a year (from 205 to 122) , averaging a little over a pound and a half a week.

I am 4'11.5", initially I set my goal at 1200 calories, since I have been working out I eat close to 1300 calories. I have lost 61 pounds since April 2014, also, I did not start working out until June 2014 and that was a big change for me. Once I started working the weight came off quicker. It takes time though, even though I started MFP in April I didn't see the big results for months, and once I started working out it took like three months before anyone noticed my weight loss. Since we're so short it takes at least 30 pounds before someone thinks you lost 10lbs.. sometimes it's hurtful, but that made have more motivation. I went from a size 16/17 to now a whopping 3/4! I am sooo excited! Now, I am not sure where you are starting from but my frame is nowhere where I want it to be, the weight I don't really care about anymore, its my stomach that I have issues with and so do many women here. Remember the number on the scale is just a number the inches on your body are what count. Add me if you would like.

Hello! I am 4'11 and I have mine set at 1200. I eat back some of my exercise calories, only if I am actually hungry. I have lost 23 lb since the end of October. I have a lot to lose on my small frame though.

4'11 here - for weight loss, my daily calories were set to 1200. Weight loss was slow and came in spurts - I HAD to work out every single day in order to actually lose. I started at 190, my original goal was 125, and it took me about 2.5 years to get there. I am now between 105-107 (it took me a year to get there from 125). I went from a US size 14/16 to a size 0. Now I focus on health - eating healthy and working out/fitness.

I am 5'1 and I just plugged everything into MFP. My goals, activity level...you get the point. I think I was around 1800(ish). I started at 211 and down 90 lbs since Oct. 2013. At first the weight dropped quickly but then as I started to get closer to my goal weight it leveled out. I am not about 3ish lbs from the low end of the range I want to be in. I have it set at 1200 calories per day but with my workouts I am typically go to about 1300-1350 per day. I didn't really change the calories "allowed" on my own I waited until the app suggested it for me.

    Good luck!

I'm 5'2" and I have Pcos, which plays into my calorie needs. I was at 1200 and lost 20 lbs on that...but I stalled and after talking with my doctor last week, I dropped it to a 1000-1100 range. I've lost 3lbs on that so far. But I am monitored on that low intake. I workout 3-4 days a week and only eat back calories if I am truly hungry. Most days, I am satisfied on my current range.

Just want to say well done to all the posters on here. I thought losing 30lb was a tedious job. You guys have real will power.
Like a number of you, I too had to use my exercise calories to get a reasonable deficit
    Cheers, h.

I am 5'1'' and 1200 calories a day with exersize. I recently, 2 or 3 days ago actually, hit my original goal weight of 135. I am now at 134, trying to get down to 125. I started April this year at 173, so it took me 7 months to get to my goal weight.

I am also 4'11" and started at 196 lbs. My heaviest was 213 lbs at one point. I can't wait to be down to 130-140 lbs.

    I'm 5'2 and started at 211 lbs.

This time last year I was eating 1400-1800 calories depending on how much I exercised.

I switched to the TDEE method (-20% of my maintenance) In February. It helped streamline my calorie intake. I ate ~1770 calories everyday.

I lost 58 lbs in a total of 10 months. 211 lbs down to 155 lbs.

I'm 5" and 1/2 and my calories are set to 1200 to 1400 depending on exercise. I started at 168lbs but fell off keeping track. I'm now at 158lbs and am trying to get in 5 days of at least 30 min of exercise but my calories are still the same. I don't have a weight goal, I'm just taking it 10lbs at a time. I really just want to be healthier and in better physical shape b/c having 6 kids has taken its toll on my body.

I'm 5'2" I originally set my calories to 1200 because thats what worked last time (forgetting that was when I was younger and 30 lbs lighter) I lost lbs then stalled then started creeping up...I upped it to 1250 down a lbs then stalled and creeping up. After throwing in the towel for a few months...I went to a dietician and she put me at 1500...seems to be working because I'm now down 8 lbs.

Note to OP -- age and activity level is also relevant for people's caloric intake for the day.

I'm 5'1.5" and 47. My goal daily calories was 1,200 from 183 to 153 lbs. From 153 to whenever I reach my weight goal of 110 lbs, my daily caloric goal will be 1,000. I've had radiation and sugeries and find my BMR and TDEE is lower than what the calculators state. I actually gain when I eat at my TDEE (which is based on being sedentary .. So it's already as low as it will go). Perhaps when I get more active, I will increase my daily caloric goal.

Good luck with your health goals :)

Oh and it took me 5 months to go from 183 to 170 (13 lbs). Then 3.5 months (after joining MFP) to go from 170 to 151 (19 lbs).

Everything I have lost so far (32 lbs) has been without exercise. When I was losing, it was when I ate 1200 cals on average. Watching my sodium intake, by keeping it around 1200-1500 helped also, to keep water retention at bay. Drinking lots of water has also helped. Depending on your TDEE (based on age and activity level and present weight), I would think you should be able to lose without exercise. I have the recent "okay" from my physiotherapist to start exercising, so I'm going to start lifting weights, to build lean muscle mass. It will certainly help my weight loss progress. Best of luck to you :). You can do this :)

I joined mainly to keep better track of nutrition, so I didn't really have a goal weight in mind, just to get healthier/eat better. I ended up losing 10-15 lbs. over 3 months (I had previously lost about 15 pounds through just exercise). I'm 5'0", and maintain on 1850 (net) daily. I also have a very physical job, and exercise often. Wishing good luck to all in your goals!

I am 5'0.5" and have been on MFP for just over 6 months. I have lost a little over 50lbs with my calories set at 1200/day. I still have about 15lbs to get to the top end of my goal. I'd like to lose an extra 5-10 lbs to give me a little cushion for fluctuation. I hope to be there by my birthday in May.

Can i ask ..do you eat whatever you want as.long as it fits in ur daily cals or do you eat more healthy type food? As i tried eating 1200 calories and didnt.lose despite weighing foods and counting cals as accurate as i could. Which iz why i wondered if ppl had lost with diet alone. I.might have been doing something wrong but.i still dont.know wat it could be lol!

I eat whatever ... I try to eat better food choices; but today for example, I had potato chips, pizza and some pop.

I know I had problems retaining water when I first started and I found out that I wasn't drinking enough water and "poof" I dropped a bunch of pounds once I started drinking water (I was drinking none and went to 6-8 cups ... I still hope to drink more). I also found pop affected me, so I have reduced my pop intake greatly. I also found I had to watch my sodium intake ... So I try to keep my sodium between 1200-1500. Other than this I eat whatever I want ....

Try replacing your pop with soda water, ElizabethMaryam. I was a big soda drinker and the change to soda water ment I got my 2 litres of water a day, my love of fizz taken care of, and had hundreds of calories for food.
I don't like pop anymore, I find it has no flavour except sugar!
Aniqa1009, I am not keen on deep fried food or fast food and make most of my meals from scratch, so eating at 1200 is quite easy because I know exactly what I am having and most times it is quite healthy. That being said, you can eat whatever you like within your calorie allotment.
    Cheers, h.
