Women Triathletes - what shorts worked best for you?

Hi all -

I am doing actually 2 tri's this summer (1st timer!) and am confused as to what shorts would work best for the race. Longer shorts? Capris? Shorter shorts? I know it's basically whatever I feel most comfortable in but I was curious if those who have done a tri before could provide any input.

Thanks!

I like an "in between" short - too long gets too hot, but too short tends to, um, SHIFT into uncomfortable places while on the bike. Mine seem to hit a couple of inches above the knee. And, of course, I have to make sure the chamois is comfortable, first and foremost.

I would suggest a pair you can also swim and run in, therefore one with a minimalist pad. I personally like Sugio (one of the cheaper ones, although you can get more expensive versions) and Zoot compression. I would go to a local tri shop and "tri" some on. I like the 6 inch inseam, but some of my taller thinner friends like the shorty short ones, and some of my heavier freinds like the long ones. I am 5' 8" but I have a long torso....and short thighs, so the 6 inch are perfect for me. If you invest in a pair of tri shorts, you can just wear them with a sports bra or sprots top...of course there are cute little sets if you have the money as well. Check out sportsbasement.com and teamestrogen.com
You want both the top and the shorts to be a little snug as to not cause drag on the swim or wind resistance on the bike...
  • Padded bike shorts after the swim unless its a short course. Stick with whats comfortable!! Nothing like fidgeting the whole race and distracting you from your time. Beware-You'll get addicted, I know I did. Best of Luck!!

Thanks for the tips! I'm 5'3 but I don't know if I necessarily want the short short ones (I hate that ride up - maaaaaybe TMI). I'll check out that site and those brands now, thanks!

I do need to just go "tri" some on. Especially because my first one is in June. Eeeek!

Mine are by Zoot. Made for the whole race - so they have the smaller padding. Worked perfect. Although, I wore the d@mn suit for one race, and now it is TOO BIG! :D
