Eating when I am not hungry?

I have a tendency to snack when I am not even hungry, I just feel a need to eat something or have something in my mouth, do something, that sort of thing. I have at least gotten into putting something into a bowl and being done with it, but what can I do to stop eating when I am not hungry? I tend to not be very hungry at dinner time because I eat lunch around 12, then have a snack when I get home at 4 (but then I go exercise from 5-6 so I don't want to be hungry then).
I also have a tendency to finish what is on my plate, whether I am still hungry or not. I have tried leaving a few pieces of food, but I am still not hungry anymore at that point. Any ideas for that?

Drink water

Try eating slower at dinner time, take sips of water between bites and like the previous post says drink water, chew gum. Whatever you need to distract you from eating more.0

It is probably boredom. Find something to occupy your time (other than television, which will constantly remind you to go look in the refrigerator). If nothing else, go for a walk around the block.0

Log your food before you eat. Plan your meals. Similar to how putting food in a bowl will prevent you from mindlessly eating the whole bag, planning your meals at the beginning of the day will prevent you from overeating. This doesn't stop you from eating when you're not hungry; it makes it not matter. Plan all your meals and snacks so you have a day's worth of eating that meets your goals, then you can eat anything on your plan. There's no harm in cleaning your plate if you've measured and logged everything that's on it.0

I have my crochet/knitting bag in the living room. If I am knitting, I'm not eating.0

I'm exactly the same. I have to finish everything on my plate, so I started putting smaller portions on. I also eat very quickly which doesn't help.
I tend to eat when I feel like something yummy, usually chocolate! So I've swapped the choc for berries. Blackberries and rasberries. It gets rid of my sweet tooth with hundreds less calories than a chocolate bar.0
