Pushups with a sturdy weighted backpack?

I dont have a press rack yet, but have a decent amount of weights, I have a extremely sturdy backpack with shoulder and chest straps though. Can I toss a good bit of weight in it and do some pushups and be ok?

    Sure. Google resistance bands for pushups. It's another way to toughen them up.

    You could do that. Or have you thought about trying out different variations that make push ups harder? Like declines, handstands, one-arm, spider push ups, diamonds, supermans, etc?

    I tried it with the weighted backpack and it felt fantastic. Was going more for a low rep highish weight. I am fairly new to lifting, so it doesnt take much currently, lol.

    I do it, I don't go over 70# in the pack though. I also don't do it with weight plates. I load my pack for a multi-day alpine climb. So it's all my gear, and the load is well distributed and kept in place. I wouldn't do it with a load that would shift.

    Its a heavy duty padded backpack, and two 25 lb plates fit in one perfect and dont move. and there is another pocket that could do more.

    Like I said. I do it, and it's no issue, but I make sure the load doesn't move.

    As long as the load doesn't shift around and is firmly on your back you should be fine. Also make sure it isn't putting pressure at a strange angle on your spine I suppose...

    yeah, it needs to really be distributed well on your back.

    I wouldn't throw 25 lb plates into a backpack and do pushups, no. Your spine isn't made to carry oddly placed and shaped weights that way, when you're horizontal. Walking, yes, if the backpack is properly adjusted to your body. (I just learned that I routinely walk around with 17 lbs :/)

    You can buy weighted vests that have little mini weights all spread out around the vest (they go up to I think 20 and 40 lbs). I think that would be better. Or, do bodyweight pushup progressions (pausing at different angles, or one-handed, etc)
