I am a horrible Dr pepper addict. i have no self control. i cannot buy a 2 liter or a 12 pack of cans and just not drink it all in a day or two. Ive tried several times to quit and finally had to just go cold turkey, not have any in the house or walk down the pop isle at the store. i lasted 2 weeks. today we were out christmas shopping and i on the way home we stopped to get drinks (we live nearly 30 minutes from the store). they had no cold bottles of water and i was so thirsty. i grabbed a dr pepper. now i have a headache and i feel awful about myself. it took 4-5 days to get rid of the caffeine withdraw headaches and now it feels like i have one all over again. i survived those 4-5 days by taking Excedrin Migraine. took my last 2 today and it didnt touch the headache at all. usually it gets rid of the headache 100% in less than 10 minutes.

FFS why do i do this to myself?!

Why? What does having their diary open or closed have to do with caffeine/soda headaches?

    Op- have you tried diet?

i dont like the taste. ive drank it from time to time if there was nothing else but it just isnt the same as my real dr pepper. and when i have pop as an option i dont drink enough water at all. if i could just get myself under control and get some will power then a soda here or there wouldnt be a big deal. but it just seems like anytime i have one i go downhill.

I'm sorry you're struggling. I can be the same way with candy - especially chocolate. I literally have to put it out of sight or I will eat the entire candy bar, or carton of ice cream, or bag of individually wrapped candies.

One trick that (sometimes) works I set a timer and eat a piece of fruit. (My sugar craving usually hits RIGHT after I eat dinner.) If I still want it after the 45 minutes is up then okay, I'll have a tiny piece. But usually by that time the craving has passed, and remarkably fast at that.

Ahh yeah. My sister in law is like that. She can't stand the taste of diet. Maybe add flavoring to your water? Do you feel like you like the taste of something carbonated instead of flat? If so, you can try flavored seltzer.

I know what you're describing, I don't think it's caffeine withdrawals. I have to quit caffeine every few months. Every time I do, that first cup of coffee or can of soda after abstaining for a while gives me a massive headache. Take an OTC pain killer, drink a tall glass of water, and get to bed early. You should feel better tomorrow. If you can make it through tomorrow without drinking any Dr. Pepper, you'll be able to go another two weeks.

Hang in there, you can do this. Tomorrow's another day.

What??? Who's Suicidal..? Have you tried replacing it with carbinated water? You could add some flavoring.. It's pretty good.

That is incredibly offensive. Suicide and mental illness are not something to joke about.

Per the bold part, I know exactly what you are talking about. The headaches were the reason I chucked the diet coke (don't like decaf flavor, and ever since I was a kid I've hated regular sodas), and also why I have to be very careful with my diet Dr. Pepper consumption and caffeinated drinks (coffees, teas).

I really admire people who can drink unlimited amounts of caffeine and not be affected by it.

It takes a lot of time and patience to build new habits. Start abstaining from soda again. It's gonna be okay in time.

Just because you have a me two illness does not mean you can joke about them. The jokes may not bother you, but they can be offensive to others.

If there's chocolate and chips in the house then I'll eat them. So I don’t buy them. Simples..

Something that no one has pointed out - the Excedrin Migraine also contains caffeine. There are 65 mg in each caplet and 41 mg in a 12 oz Dr. Pepper.

Oh yes! Good catch. Yes, the headache can be caused from too much caffeine, rather than withdrawals. So a pain killer with caffeine in it won't help much.

Of course there is. That is a good catch.
