So I have noticed a BIG difference in the amount of calories my elleptical says I burn and the amount MFP says I burn if I log my exercise in under "elleptical trainer." Im confused and not too sure about what I should do? Any Ideas?

Get a heart rate monitor with chest strap. Polar FT7 is a good model. To use MFPs estimates, it really depends on the intensity you worked out at. I find that I have to work out at a really high consistent intensity to match what MFP says I should have burned for Elliptical. I typically burn a little less.

The count you get from your machine is probably more accurate since what's in the database is going to be an average, so just manually change it

general 'dumb' programming on workout machines is not based on any of your parameters.

I don't think most folks put any trust in the numbers coming out of them.

You do need, as others have said, to get a good HRM (with a cheststrap) set it up for you and then you will know what your are burning.

I would go by the machine only because some of the machines have sensors and they provide a good estimate that should place you in the ball park of the correct amount of calories burned
