I don't know I don't get to watch it.0 -
I think other MFP'ers have said they smell really bad and to rinse them before using.0
-
I tried them once and I don't think I could try them again. They had this fishy smell and I couldn't get passed it. I think it said to rinse them, so I did but it didn't help.0

I've tried the Shiratake Noodles and they are goooood!!! They stink too, really bad. But I didn't know about these.0

ummm i'm ordering it....right now lol0

Yes..those are the ones that were on Dr. Oz!0

I even mixed these with homemade Alfredo sauce...hate to say it but these are NASTY0

They are best used as part of an Asian dish of some sort, rather than with pasta sauce. They have a fishy smell when you open the package, but it rinses away when you wash them in a colander. They are a bit rubbery, but you can reduce that by cooking them in a pan for a bit. I ordered some not long ago from Amazon, and liked them in a pad thai style dish with tofu, shredded cabbage and other veggies, some toasted sesame oil, mirin, and lime juice. I also used some Bangkok blend spices from Penzeys. It was good!
Some people dislike the texture. My final caveat is that these are made entirely of soluble fiber, so take some Beano with them!
Edit - these are shiritaki noodles, but are different from the soy shiritaki blend.0 -

Don't buy the expensive one's online....go to your local wholefoods or oriental store. And yes they're good, just rinse them well.0

I'm really picky about food smells, so having that fishy odor before rinsing just turned me 100% off to it. Now if only pastries came with an offensive odor...0

I've not had the "regular" shirataki noodles but have had the tofu variety many times. I like them quite a bit. They should be rinsed well and dry-fried in a pan for a bit prior to adding them to your dish.
Definitely don't go in thinking they are a "spaghetti replacement" though or you'll be disappointed. They're pretty damn good in stir-fry. Even found the wide noodles and tried a little homemade chicken alfredo and it wasn't bad at all.0 -
I just tried the ones called Pasta Slim. They did stink a little but not too much after I rinsed them. They didn't taste like anything. Their texture was horrible though - like chewing on rubber bands. I ended up not eating them. I think they would be ok if they were chopped up and cooked differently, like in a baked pasta dish. I had just put some pesto sauce and diced turkey on them.0

They sound great but I'd rather not order them online. I wish you could purchase them in stores. Another great alternative to pasta is called Tofu Shirataki noodles. You can buy them at most stores. They taste exactly like noodles but with only 20 calories per serving and 4 carbs! They are so low in everything! They come in liquid in a bag. Usually by the tofu. You dont have to cook them but I usually do because I try out different recipes with them. They are delicious!0

I have a whole box that I ordered thinking that they were going to be great... and well...they are actually pretty gross. Not a good taste and the texture leaves a lot to be desired. I wouldn't buy them again and doubt I will ever eat what I have.0

Oh man I could go for some noodles.... Even with a fishy smell. Noodley goodness I here you in my brain0 -
Ok,
When you combine the idea of noddles (which I love) and fishy water stink it kills the whole idea. Then to top it off someone mentions the texture as much like eating rubberbands....
Pass.... :frown:0 -
I only like them in stir-frys or Asian type dishes. I tried using it as a spaghetti substitute, but its just not as good. Speghetti squash worked better. I order mine from Miracle noodle though, they were WAY less fishy smelling than ones I bought from local markets.0

they are less on Amazon !0

I bought the tofu shirataki ones one time and couldn't bring myself to eat them. Blech.
I'll stick with rice noodles! They're cheap and easy to find (plus gluten free). Bonus of no fishy smell.0 -
I disliked the straight shiritaki noodles. I didn't hate them or anything, I just decided that they really weren't my thing.
I am, however, totally OK with the tofu shiritaki noodles. Sure, they're no italian pasta, but they're totally decent and completely palatable when cooked correctly. For dinner tonight, I made a stirfry with mushrooms, smartground, snow peas, shredded carrots, and tofu shiritaki with a tamari garlic sauce. Very tasty.0 -
so i just got my miracle noodles and rice in the mail. i mixed the rice with some split pea soup that i make yesterday, and it wasn't all that bad! you kind of have to expect it to taste like nothing and have a little bit of a funky texture cuz it's zero calories. but instead of having a huge 200 calorie bowl of awesome split pea soup, i had a huge 100 calorie bowl of pretty good split pea soup, and i'm FULL! i wouldn't have it by itself, but i would definitely use it again to mix with other stuff to cut down the calories by 25-50%.
i'm satisfied
ps - they do smell like fish. rinse A LOT, and when it's done cooking, rinse again!0 -
naturally water soluble fiber
that's what it says on the site, wouldn't that mean it IS digestible?0
