Protein Lover

I know a lot of people who over eat carbs but for me it's not a problem, I'm not much of a carb lover. My problem is protein, red meat, eggs, chicken, sea food, you name it. I'm trying to stick to the calorie counter but I've been going over on the protein. Is that too bad? Can I still loose weight by eating too much protein?

It depends on your goals. As long as you are in a calorie deficit, you will lose weight.
I lift, so I try to eat a minimum of 100 grams of protein a day. When I'm really on, I'll hit 130+. No problems here.0 -
I'm the same way, I'm not a carb lover but I go over my protein goals almost every day. I especially love tuna, and that packs a real protein punch :P
Protein is definitely one of the 'safer' macros to overindulge in, but frankly, it all comes back to "everything in moderation". Your body can only process so much protein (a function of your build, genetics, activity level, etc..) and it will store the excess for later use. It is also important to know that protein is the macronutrient that your body utilizes for energy last (i.e it is not your body's preferred source of energy). This means that it can be a little harder to burn off/utilize stored protein. That being said, most people undereat on protein, so as long as you're not eating a ridiculous excess of protein, you're probably fine.
Keep in mind that protein digestion and muscle synthesis is optimized by a balance of all macronutrients, so make sure you're not depriving your body of other macros to get more protein.0 -
For what it's worth, if you're using MFP's default macros, their protein goal is set fairly low. Unless you have a medical or other reason to cut down on the protein, I wouldn't worry about being in the red there.0

Unless you have kidney problems, high protein diets will not do any harm. 1 g of protein/lb of body weight (unless you are very overweight) is the top of the range of what you would need (if you're doing a lot of weight lifting). There is no real benefit of going over that. If you're doing more than that now, drop it down some and increase your carbs. You'll probably have more energy to put into your workouts.0

As long as you're within your calorie goals, I wouldn't worry about protein. Protein is good for you. It helps you feel full, helps maintain muscle, and is yummy. I tend to be high in protein and low in carbs too.0

I highly doubt you're eating "too much" protein and no, it will not keep you from losing weight. Weight loss is calories in vs. calories out. If anything, the extra protein will keep you full, preventing going over your calorie goal.
I eat at least 100 g protein on weekends and at least 125 g (1 g/lb of body weight) on week days when I work out. I lost all of my weight just fine that way.0 -
Awesome, Thank you all for your comments. I wont worry about it any more.0

Agree with everyone. Take your weight, transfer to kg and multiply it by 2. That is a general MAX in grams of protein you should eat. But like everyone said, as long as your in deficit your good.0
