How often shoud abs be trained in a week? Is it more effective if its trained every day or onxe per weeek is enough?
Can I expect more if weights are included in exercises?

  • Dedicated ab training every day is probably overkill. It depends on what else you're doing. My weight training is power and oly lifts and I do Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Those are all demanding on your core strength. I only need to add a few weighted ab sets per week and I'm pretty much toast.

I do very little in the way of direct ab work. I do some if I have some extra time after a workout...but I'm hitting my abs and core in general pretty good with compound lifting movements.

That said, I do variations of planks pretty much every day...but I don't really consider that "ab work" per sei....

Just remember the old saying. Abs are built in the kitchen. I currently work abs 1 day a week, but also do weighted barbell twists 600 reps daily. I am about 90 pounds from my goal weight, but have visible top set of abs coming out already. Need to melt fat for those abs to show. The common number for abs is <10% hope this helps!

You can get a nice set of abs just from squats and deads. Add on whatever extra after that, but you don't need a lot more. And yes, the more weight, the quicker the results.

This is a pretty good point. If your goal is to be able to see your abs and have definition then you need to diet down and lose body fat. If you want a strong, functional core that will make you a better performing human being then get in the weight room.

What is the end goal of your abs training? Is it to see them or have a very strong core? Diet will go farther than your specific workout if visible abs are what you want? If a strong overall core is what you want, I favor doing at least a little core work 4-5 times a week.
